TeamUSA Wins European Debating Championships
Posted by Jon Cruz in the News categorySTUTTGART, GERMANY - Debate is not just limited to the United States. Indeed, this past week, a team representing the entire country competed for an international title in Germany. Frequently, nations from the across the British Commonwealth dominate this particular style of parliamentary debate, but they were no match for this year’s squad from the States.
In the final round of the European Debating Championships, the members of TeamUSA defeated their colleagues from Canada in a most spirited match. The United States was represented by Anna Ferrando of Deer Park High School, Greg Hertz of Millburn High School, Carl Bescoby of San Marino High School, Agnes Nam of Shrewsbury High School, and Ting Ting Tam of the Bronx High School of Science. Congratulations to all five for an incredible job well done!
The team is coached by J.J. Rodriguez, Richard B. Sodikow, and Phyllis Hirth.

Dowling Catholic Round Robin Participants Revealed
Posted by Jon Cruz in the News categoryWEST DES MOINES, IA - Steve Schappaugh today released the names of the twelve competitors in this year’s inaugural Dowling Catholic Round Robin. The event will take place on the two days following the Dowling Catholic Paradigm. Congratulations to those invited!
“Each Round Robin is structured differently and at our Round Robin we are trying something a bit new. To our knowledge, it’s never been done,” explained Schappaugh. “We will have two pods with six debaters in each pod; however, instead of just debating each one in the pod once members of the pod will debate twice: a chance to affirm and negate against everyone in the pod.”
