Laird Lewis Invitational Registration Opens on 8/1
MYERS PARK, N.C. — The official web site for the thirty-eighth annual Laird Lewis Invitational at Myers Park High School is online. The tournament will take place on January 7 and 8, 2011.
Registration opens at 12:01 AM EST on August 1, 2010. The tournament has a bid at the octafinal level in Public Forum Debate and at the super session level in Congressional Debate. Competition is also offered in Lincoln-Douglas Debate and the Individual Events.
The invitation letter is available here on VBD.
The Laird Lewis Invitational is the most competitive and largest speech and debate tournaments in the Carolinas (and arguably in the south). Last year’s tournament featured four (TOC, NCFL, 2 NFL) PFD National Champions and countless teams from around the country with strong competitive record. We had over 120 teams registered for PFD and over 50 registered LDers in 2010! Our LD field continues to grow every year.
We offer LOW entry fees ($40 per PFD team/$20 per LD entry), 6 prelim rounds, breaks to Double Octas (if numbers warrant in LD), and OCTAS bids in PFD to the TOC. Transportation from our tournament hotel to the tournament is also offered for free for teams flying to Charlotte. Our goal is to make your stay with us as comfortable, inexpensive, and fun as possible.
We run a FULL tournament in a day and a half (not three days like most tournaments), so you don’t sit around all weekend and WASTE your time.
And, we are thrilled to announce that PFDebate.com and Crossfire Briefs will be again our title sponsor for the National Public Forum Challenge IV. This is a by-application-only event held on the Sunday following the Laird Lewis. Only 16 teams are accepted for this event and it is ‘challenge style’ which means the competitors pick their opponents in the double-elim challenge rounds! Applications will be available in August 2010. Click the link above for more information.
Superior Competition. Superior Tab Staff (NO college students). Cool Trophies. Great Food. The Laird Lewis is the BEST choice for quality debate competition in January!
