State Champions Crowned in Arizona
TACOMA, Wash. — The Arizona Interscholastic Association State Championship Tournament crowned champions in three divisions this weekend. In the 5A division, Brophy College Preparatory School’s Andrew Anderson defeated Mountain View High School’s Hannah Begley on a 2-1 decision in the final round to win the title. In the 4A division, McClintock High School’s Abby Perkins defeated Flagstaff High School’s Reid Carter on a 2-1 decision in the final round to win the title. The 3A/2A/1A tournament ended with a close-out, as Tempe Preparatory Academy’s Poojah Ramesh and Paxton Attridge were declared co-champions. (Paxton coached over teammate Kavin Tamizhmani in the semifinal round.)

The judges in the 5A final round were Nicole Brasch, Kyle Plumley, and Michael Wong; Brasch and Plumley were in the majority.
The judges in the 4A final round were Nick Klemp, Hazel Hatch, and Liz Berthold. Klemp and Berthold were in the majority.
Andrew is coached by Kevin Coltin; Hannah is coached by Xi Lin and Aaron Baker. Abby is coached by Richard Glover and Tim Cornwell; Reid is coached by Carol Willis.

At the 4A State Tournament at Sunnyslope High School, McClintock High School’s Abby Perkins met Flagstaff High School’s Reid Carter in the final round of LD. On a 2-1 decision, Abby Perkins is the 4A State Champion. The panel consisted of Nick Klemp, Hazel Hatch, and Liz Berthold. Klemp and Berthold concurred, Hatch dissented. Perkins is coached by Richard Glover and Tim Cornwell. Carter is coached by Carol Willis.
