James Madison Memorial Closes Out Wisconsin State Tournament

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — 286 competitors from twenty-nine schools qualified for the 2009-1010 Wisconsin State Debate Tournament held at South Milwaukee High School back in December.

The Lincoln-Douglas debate championship was shared by James Madison Memorial High School’s Arjun Seshadri and Brendan Caldwell, who closed out the final round. Congratulations to the State Champions!

Arjun and Brendan are coached by Tim Scheffler, Nick Bubb, and Krishna Agrawal.

The policy debate final round brought together Marquette University High School’s team of Matthew Cekanor and Tyler Thur and Nicolet High School’s team of Abby Loxton and Jason Schwartz. On a 3-2 decision, Nicolet bested Marquette University to take the tournament. Congratulations to all four finalists!

Abby and Jason are coached by Justice Platt and Devin Merget; Matthew and Tyler are coached by Bill Batterman.

In the final round of Public Forum debate, James Madison Memorial High School’s Lingran Kong and Valerie Shen defeated Nicolet High School’s Rachel Wilkinson and Alexis Wilkinson to claim the title. It was a 5-0 decision. Congratulations to both teams!

Lingran and Valerie are coached by Tim Scheffler, Nick Bubb, and Krishna Agrawal; Rachel and Alexis are coached by Justice Platt and Devin Merget.

At the State Tournament, Bill Batterman was named Wisconsin Coach of the Year. Congratulations!
