In Memoriam: Scott Deatherage

CHICAGO, Ill. — Legendary college policy debate coach Scott Deatherage passed away Christmas morning.
Detherage was the executive director of the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues. Prior to taking the helm at the NAUDL, the Duck — as Deatherage was widely known — served as director of debate at Northwestern University, where he had what was rightly described as an ‘unparalleled record of coaching success.” His teams won the NDT national championship seven times; he additionally coached four NDT top speakers. Deatherage was voted Coach of the Decade for the 1990s by his peers.

An absolutely amazing man, to say nothing of his coaching abilities. Scott was an incredible role model and truly inspirational individual.
