Sasha Arijanto Takes the Cake at CPS
OAKLAND, Cali. — The Altamont School’s Sasha Arijanto and the Meadows School’s Jordan Lamothe faced off in the final round of the eighth annual College Preparatory School Invitational. Ryan Lawrence, Adam Nelson, and Alex Smith adjudicated.
On a 2-1 decision — Nelson dissented — Sasha defeated Jordan to take the tournament. Congratulations to both debaters!
An error with the trophies ended deliciously for the competitors, as they were treated to designer cakes!
Sasha is coached by Chris Castillo; Jordan is coached by Dan Meyers and Mike Spirtos.

Congrats to Lexy on a creative idea. The CPS trophy order for Varsity speakers got messed up, so I hope we see pictures of the replacement “trophies” soon. For those of you who are wondering, there are now 10 debaters with delicious looking cakes in ascending sizes and levels of badassery. That’s right, cakes.

I was just like to express my appreciation for Lexy and the College Prep team for hosting what I believe to be one of the best and most efficiently run tournaments in the country. For small entry fees comparatively you get great rounds, great judging, amazing food, cool and unique trophies, and the experience of debating on a pretty damn gorgeous campus. I’m a big fan of the cakes – love the tradition – send the kids a copy of the picture you took so they can ‘have their cake and eat it too’ (thanks for the awful humor Dan). Finally, congrats to Jordan and Sasha for their performances and to Emily for her first outround appearance at a bid tournament.
