NFL, Stanley Foundation Sponsor Glenbrooks PF

GLENVIEW and NORTHBROOK, Ill. — The National Forensic League and its November Public Forum signature sponsor, The Stanley Foundation, will be on hand to video record some debates, and students’ views on the topic (the “PFD Confessional Booth”).

This past weekend, the NFL made the Stanley Foundation’s new video, Fragile States: Risk & Responsibility, available for debaters to view.

The NFL worked with The Stanley Foundation to provide free resources on the November topic.

President and CEO of The Stanley Foundation, Vladimir P. Sambaiew, will be a featured final round judge at The Glenbrooks Tournament. Mr. Sambaiew brings 30 years of experience with the US State Department, including as director of the Office of Bilateral Trade when China entered the WTO. He also served as in-country lead on the US-Russia program to control “loose” Russian nuclear materials. Mr. Sambaiew was a foreign affairs fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University where he focused on post-Cold War issues. He taught globalization while a diplomat in residence at the University of Oklahoma and spoke often at universities across seven Midwest states. He holds a B.A. from Princeton University and speaks four foreign languages: Russian, Spanish, French, and Japanese.

The Stanley Foundation will footage recorded at The Glenbrooks to share with its staff and board of directors to get a sense of how the general public views whether failed or stable nations are more of a threat to the United States. It’s exciting that a nonprofit agency whose purpose it is to raise awareness of security issues is interested in the views of young people through academic debate! The NFL also will use some of the footage to promote academic debate, and incorporate it in instructional programs as part of its new Web site, NFLtv. The tournament sent a video release form to coaches on behalf of the NFL and Stanley Foundation, asking debaters to bring completed forms with permissions to be video recorded. Any students or coaches with questions about the video recording process can contact the NFL’s Programs Coordinator, Adam Jacobi.

Three years ago, The Glenbrooks helped SchoolTube.com debut its Speech and Debate portal, and is proud of its tradition of being a key partner with like-minded organizations in providing opportunities to advance a shared mission of debate education.

The National Forensic League has partnered with the Stanley Foundation to provide resources for the November topic, “Resolved: Failed nations are a greater threat to the United States than stable nations.” The Stanley Foundation’s mission is to promote public understanding, constructive dialogue, and cooperative action on critical international issues. Its work recognizes the essential roles of both the policy community and the broader public in building sustainable peace, and to that end, this topic falls within their “human protection” focus area.
