Hockaday Closes Out UNT in Quarters
Hockaday Also Claims Public Forum Debate Title
DENTON, Tex. — Final round close-outs are exciting. Semifinal round close-outs are intense. Quarterfinal round close-outs? Practically unheard of. Yet, this weekend, the Hockaday School was able to claim such an achievement, as its debaters placed as the top twelve seeds at the John S. Gossett Memorial Tournament at the University of North Texas. Winning all four octafinals rounds, Hockaday was able to close out the tournament in quarters. Congratulations to co-champions Leila Safavi, Lara Gatehouse, Kaavya Balan, Anna Ramundo, Annie Zhu, Trishla Jain, Sarah Ridout, and Mollie Cowger!
(In the octafinal round, Annie, Trishla, Sarah, and Mollie advanced over teammates Michelle Tsai, Hanna Fanous, Rupsha Basu, and Sarah Alexander, respectively.)
Leila, Lara, Kaavya, Anna, Annie, Trishla, Sarah, and Mollie (and Michelle, Trishla, Sarah, and Rupsha) are coached by Stacy Thomas, Eric Melin, and Jenn Miller.
Hockaday’s victorious weekend extended not only to Lincoln-Douglas debate but to Public Forum debate, as the team of Jasmine DiLucci and Patricia Porter defeated Plano East Senior High School’s Maya Sachdeva & Nikki Sachdeva on a 2-1 decision to claim the tournament title. Congratulations to both teams!
Jasmine and Patricia are coached by Stacy Thomas, Eric Melin, and Jenn Miller; Maya and Nikki are coached by Stephen Horn and Ashley Edwards.
Hockaday also claimed top team honors by winning the first place sweepstakes award.

Tabbing this tournament must have been a NIGHTMARE. Less than 60 entries, 15 from one school, and ALL of them in the upper brackets. Pull-up madness.

Just would like to point out that, by looking at the results packet, no other team had a single debater with more than 3 wins. Pure domination.
