Ben Lewis Wins the 2009 Bronx Round Robin
NEW YORK, N.Y. — In the final round of this year’s installment of the Bronx Round Robin, one of Lincoln-Douglas debate’s oldest such titles, Walt Whitman High School’s Ben Lewis defeated Saint Louis Park High School’s Catherine Tarsney. Congratulations to both debaters!
The round, which was decided on a 2-1 decision, was adjudicated by Dr. Sandra Berkowitz, Chris Castillo, and Ryan Cooper. (Cooper dissented.)
Ben is coached by Anjan Choudhury, Todd Liipfert, Tanya Choudhury, and Elyse Lyons; Catherine is coached by Christian Tarsney, Heather Hamilton, and Jason Zhou.
As top speaker for the Bronx Round Robin, Ben was also awarded the Jonathan Koppell Award.
This year’s tournament brought together twelve very talented competitors for a long day of competition on the campus of New York University. Competitors were also treated to three “bests” of New York cuisine: the famous bagels and spreads (including white fish!) of Bagel Bob’s, the famous pies of John’s Pizzeria of Bleecker Street, and the famous sushi of Japonica.
