It is so cool to read this commentary live. It feels weird not being there, but, hey.
THANK YOU BIETZ!

I am officially going to put into writing what I have said for years: J. Scott Wunn has the most heterosexual man persona of all time. It’s intimidating.

The best part of this year’s ceremony is that you can watch it from your hotel room :)

And I agree about the techno. What was up with that?

To further my comment (#2), I can perfectly picture how Scott Wunn said “AWESOME.”

Congratulations in a moment, but first let me comment on what Bietz wrote above in his live commentary –
The thirty-ninth annual New York City Invitational this October will indeed feature the pomp and circumstance that the debate community has come to expect from me, but my awards ceremonies are that — plural! :o) (Come for the opening presentation of awards, the Saturday night speaker award presentation and supportive award presentation, and the final presentation of the Richard B. Sodikow Award in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, the Big Bronx Bowl in Team Debate, the David Yalof Trophy in Public Forum Debate, and the Joseph Giovannelli Grand Gavel in Legislative Debate, presented on Sunday, Sunday, Saturday, and Saturday, respectively.
:o)
Many to congratulate. I will do so in a moment.

fun piece of debate trivia: this makes 4 consecutive years in which texas has won the nfl nationals title in LD, and 5 consecutive years in which the state has won a national title in LD.

Mike and JC, thanks for the compliments on the speech. I love you, too, JC, and this tournament would have been a whole lot more fun if you were here. Any kids reading — we actually know how good you can be, so we get a little pissy when you don’t do what it takes to be who you were made to be. As long as you get it somewhere in the next few years, it’s OK. I love all y’all, baby.

Gotta agree with Cruz, Tom Rollins speech definitely wraps up the coaching experience perfectly.

But Tom Rollins hates public speaking!
Congratulations on your speech, Tom. I definitely felt I had a special perspective on your message as you delivered it.
Thank you for coaching us.
Also, to Jon Cruz and VB, many thanks for your encouragement throughout the tournament.
And to Shivani Vohra and Jake Nebel, congratulations on two extraordinary Lincoln-Douglas careers.
