Breaking News: LD Finals — Nebel vs. Vohra

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — And then there were two.
The Hockaday School’s Shivani Vohra and Trinity Preparatory School’s Jake Nebel will face off in the final round of Lincoln-Douglas debate at the 2009 National Tournament. Victory Briefs Daily will provide coverage of finals and of the awards ceremony.
In the fifteenth round, Jake defeated Cherry Creek High School’s Stephen Lurie; Shivani defeated Leland High School’s Aparna Ramanan.

CONGRATULATIONS to Jake and Shivani, two of the very best debaters of perhaps the most competitive graduating class in Lincoln-Douglas debate history.
Congratulations as well to Aparna and Stephen (a loyal “Ask Cruz” questioner!) on their performances this week.

Stephen, here’s a shout out from a three-time opponent Colorado. Congratulations on making it so far! I repeatedly refreshed VBD to see these results. And Adam, I could tell from your ability in lab at VBI that you would go far at nationals, and ha, I was right. Congratulations, and have a happy end to high school debate (or at least try to suppress the nostalgia).

Congrats to Shivani and Jake for setting up a phenomenal final round. I’m sure it’ll be a great round; best of luck to both of you!
Congrats, too, to Aparna. I remember telling Mrs. Brasher during your freshman year that you had the talent to win nationals…the dedication you’ve shown to the game is why you’re making me look like a genius. I’m glad that the LD side of things has had you around to shepherd it into the future. Great job, and way to make all of us proud!

I will confirm this later, but I am fairly certain Hockaday is the first school to ever be in three consecutive final rounds of Lincoln-Douglas debate — Taarini, Joan, and now Shivani — and I know Hockaday is certainly one of the only schools (the only?) to to be in finals three times. I’ll confirm with details later.

the reason people were confused is that there are final rounds tonight (Thurs) in HI, DI and duo, but yes the blog makes it clear that it’s only Friday.

1) internet explorer not firefox
2) latest version of quick time
and it takes a few seconds to load
then you the stage and all the trophies
