HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — The Tarheel Forensic League State Tournament at North Mecklenburg High School attracted some of the very best debaters in North Carolina. In the final round, junior Josh Zoffer of Durham Academy faced off against junior Madelyn Powell of Jack Britt High School. Josh defeated Madelyn on a 3-0 decision to win the state title.
Josh is coached by Jeff Welty, Allison Bell, and Matt Graham; Madelyn is coached by Ronald J. McBride, Elsa McBride, William McLean, and Debbie Henderson.

Yea he’s getting a PhD at UNC and he coaches our LDers in his spare time. He’s an amazing coach, we’re really lucky to have him.
