Register Today for Blake

posted by Jon Cruz on November 19th, 2008

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — “Yes,” exclaims Shane Stafford, “the Blake Bears!”

“And, the 46th Annual John Edie Holiday Debate Tournament is fast approaching,” notes Stafford. “Come to Minneapolis and don’t worry about the weather. We enter the Hyatt on Thursday and don’t emerge until Sunday when champions are determined. Come early or stay late and get some shopping in at the Mall of America. Take some time and check out the Holidazzle Parade in downtown Minneapolis.”

Twenty states have already registered.

The following is a message from Shane Stafford:

The tournament has varsity divisions in policy debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate, and Public Forum debate. Policy and LD are TOC quarterfinals bids. The tournament is still a month away and it appears we are bigger and better than last year. The Hyatt hotel sets up extra tables and chairs in hotel rooms so we can debate at the hotel! We rent three floors of rooms and today moved into our fourth floor of rooms due to the growth of the tournament. The Public Forum division has moved into the hotel as well. The Public Forum debaters will be debating the December topic and there is a TOC bid at finals.

The Lincoln-Douglas debaters will debate the January/February resolution.

New to the tournament this year is the Twin Cities Public Forum Round Robin. We are recruiting panels of Twin Cities residents to judge this round robin (educators, business people, politicians, lawyers, artists, and many other walks of life will populate the panels). Additionally, the round robin debaters will debate the January public forum topic. Finally, the Bears have truly arrived: a new nice looking set of awards has been developed to allow you to truly remember your experience at the John Edie tournament. Late elimination trophies reflect an impressive design that allow you to add a picture. We plan to take pictures of the coaches with their teams prior to the late elimination rounds and then place those pictures in the appropriate award at the conclusion of the round.

There is still room. Register at Joy of Tournaments website. Get your hotel rooms reserved as the nice rate officially extends only until November 30.

    1. no one at blake has any clue how the tournament was run last year (simply put, there was no organization last year, just tab and our coach who was awful at organizing things)

    2. These trophies are going to be infinitely more amazing than whatever was done last year

actually, the empty glass triangle vase trophy-like things were only for the LD RR last year (along with the vikings hats and signed matt burleson football, i believe)
