posted by Jon Cruz on November 8th, 2008

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. — The twenty-third annual Minneapple at Apple Valley High School concluded Saturday evening with a round that featured defending champion Ben Holguin of Edina High School and challenger Ross Brown of Valley High School. The round was adjudicated by Ali Huberlie, Anjan Choudhury, Tim Hogan, Todd Liipfert, and Prashant Rai.

On a 4-1 decision — Rai dissented — Ben defeated Ross to keep his title.

Ben is coached by Jake Gelfand; Ross is coached by Dave McGinnis and Ernie Rose.

In the final round of the tournament’s junior varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate division, Scarsdale High School’s Jonathan Bowyer defeated Walt Whitman High School’s Daniel Imas to win the championship. Congratulations to both debaters!

Jonathan is coached by Joe Vaughan and Patrick Diehl; Daniel is coached by Anjan Choudhury, Tanya Choudhury, Elyse Lyons, Todd Liipfert, and Stephanie Caravias.

i find it 2 be extrmelu troubling that arguments like edinas are starting to win tournaments. there substantive arguments without value strctures leave no room for us spreaders. to be honest i think more a preorees are necessary to combat edinas silly case strctures and return any sort of legitimasy to the activity.

@ 77 - Phil had the best record of all the debaters who did not clear this weekend. They called the award the crab apple since A) it’s the Mineapple, B) it’s APPLE valley, and C) they hand out apples as trophies, so it was fitting to make it the crab apple award for the 33rd seed

Congrats to the Valley Crew for an incredible weekend and confirming my theory about policy debaters.

Congrats to my boy Catterton and a bust out Tournament for Gurdane

Congrats to Walt Whitman on yet another bid recipient. Think you guys are going to make pairing rounds at TOC pretty easy cause everyone who ain’t you is probably going to have to debate you.

Special Props to JRob for battling back from a rough 2-2 start to come up just one ballot short from qualling to the TOC in November as a Sophomore.
