I've been working at the polls on and off all day: an hour in the morning, four hours in the afternoon, and i'm about to go back for another hour and a half tonight.
Regardless of party, here are some cool things I've seen so far:
A 93 year old woman voting for the first time
A man giggling he was so excited to participate in American government
A woman approach me after voting and say, in broken English, "I hope we win..."
A plethora of children asking their parents if they could press the button(s)
Friendly competition between those handing out Democratic paraphanelia and those handing out Republican paraphanelia
All of the hundreds of people waiting outside in the rain.

Oregon is a vote by mail state. We received our ballots between October 17 and 21. Yesterday, I phone banked for six hours. Nearly everyone I spoke with said they voted weeks ago. They all seemed enthusiastic and sincere.

Last night, I phonebanked for Barack Obama for several hours, reaching out specifically to folks in Pennsylvania and Florida who donated to Hillary Clinton but did not donate to Senator Obama. The intent was to make sure that they were voting today, and that they were voting for Barack Obama.

I cast my vote early and waited forty minutes in line to do so, which is almost unheard of during a presidential election in New York, where it's a foregone conclusion that the Democrat will win. I was really charged up by the enthusiasm of the people in line.
