I know these conversations never happen on here. But anyone want to shed some light on the arguments being made on the topic.

I’m more interested about the neg. Given that 95% of the Lexis articles seem to be AFF and a vast majority of topic articles seem to just refer to Roger Clegg to explain the neg side.

    Thanks for any info,

    Sam

    Sam–

I’m seeing a lot of retribution/proportionality type negs; most people aren’t running much evidence because neg evidence doesn’t exist. I’ve also seen a couple cases arguign we should never make universal policy prescriptions–we should leave it up to the democracies to make the decision about whether felons should be disenfranchised.

Semis is Edina JM vs. Valley RB, New Trier CC vs. Hopkins CD.

Congrats to all the semifinalists, and also to Michael Prideaux for making the bid round as a sophomore on some very impressive debating and Leah Shapiro for going 4-2 and missing on speaks as a freakin’ seventh grader. Catherine, sorry the three-peat didn’t happen, but you’re going to win it again next year, so it doesn’t matter :-)

Congrats to all of the competitors who cleared and those who earned bids. I was impressed by many debaters that I judged and particularly the improvement I saw in Graham Tierney of ICW and Anna Lyons from Valley! I had a lot of fun back in IA and look forward to seeing many of you and more at the Paradigm this year for my second trip back to the best state in the country.
