Strike Sheet: Big Bronx XXXVIII
NEW YORK, N.Y. — Jon Cruz released today the list of critics for the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Tournament at the thirty-eighth annual New York City Invitational. His e-mail follows.
—
We will be using a community preference system in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate division to give coaches input into the rating of the judges used at our tournament. A community preference system determines each judge’s rating by averaging the ratings submitted by all programs.
“A” judges will adjudicate “bubble rounds” (down 1 or 2), as these are the debaters still in contention for elimination rounds. “C” judges, then, are better placed where the stakes are less high. “Bs” fit where they fit.
We do not impose a limit on ratings in our Lincoln-Douglas Debate tournament; you may rate as many as you want whatever you want. You may strike up to eight judges.
*** IMPORTANT *** The completed sheet must be sent to Jim Menick, our director of tabulation for Lincoln-Douglas Debate, by 7:00 PM on Thursday. Jim can be reached at jim_menick@yahoo.com.
If a judge is missing from this rating sheet, please contact Jon Cruz.
Any other questions? Please e-mail Jim Menick.
E-mail this sheet back to Jim Menick. You may rate judges 1 for A, 2 for B, 3 for C. Write STRIKE for judges you are striking. Judge constraints do not count as strikes, but please indicate if a particular judge is constrained from judging your school.
NOTE: Mira Chernick, Mike Contillo, Molly Pittman, and Brandon Sherman were added to the sheet after the initial version was sent out to coaches. They have been added this list.
My apologies, there are three final additions to the sheet. Any other judges that are added will be listed on a supplementary strike sheet this Friday. (Supplementary strike sheets are “free” strikes.)

Very good judging pool. Except for Menick. He’s an auto-C judge (I run on reciprocation).

No limit on ratings? Not that we’re attending, but we could rate everyone a C except for 8 As and be guaranteed those judges all tournament…?

It’s community ratings, not MJP. So, all your ratings do is provide one data point that when collected over the entire set provide a judge’s “average” — that aveerage determines/assists in judge placement (rather than tab solely determining judge placement or random judge placement). In other words, the ratings give a collective sense of what the participants think about the judges. I applaud Bronx for doing it.
In other important news, every team gets eight strikes — I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU USE ONE OF THOSE ON ANJAN CHOUDHURY (WALT WHITMAN). I hear he is a terrible judge and a total hack. Definitely strike him.

If you support McCain, you should strike Choudhury.
If you are undecided, you should strike both Anjan and Choudhury.

Again, we’re not attending… But if we were, we would strike Anjan both on the strike sheet and physically.
I’d also have a student spit food at him.

Imagine what kind of person is NOT striking Anjan at this point. Then, think to your self:
Self, if I end up facing this kind of person, do I really want to do so with Anjan judging.
STRIKE ANJAN IN 2008. EARLY AND OFTEN.

no seriously,
Anjan has judged so many rounds on this topic that he has decided whether the resolution is true or false, and that is the side that you won’t be defending.

October 23rd, 2008 13:01
Oh Rebar, the line is “It’s a trap!”. And in this instance, it isn’t.
All things said about Anjan here are true: he does sleep in rounds, he also works in rounds (not on debate though), he decides the outcomes of rounds prior to pairings being released, when he does pay attention he usually makes the wrong decision, he hates evidence but also hates slow debate, he hates theory but loves RVIs, he also gives double 20s with great frequency.
And, he’s not lying, the only way to be friends with Anjan is to strike him. We struck him at Greenhill and he payed for part of my meal.
Posted from: 69.140.171.79
October 23rd, 2008 13:01
Maybe if you rank Anjan high enough, he’ll have to judge every single round at the tournament. We won’t need any other judges. Imagine the money you’ll save!
