NEW YORK, N.Y. — On Wednesday, the National Forensic League will announce the Lincoln-Douglas debate resolution that will serve as the basis for competitions in both November and December. The potential resolutions are listed in full in the extended body of this article. Which do you hope will be chosen? Why?
Resolved: Military conscription is unjust.
Resolved: On reservations, sovereignty claims by indigenous peoples ought to be prioritized above the plenary power of the United States federal government.
Resolved: In a democratic society, felons ought to retain the right to vote.
Resolved: A parliamentary form of government is preferable to the United States presidential system.
Resolved: United States law ought not recognize marriage.
Resolved: United States immigration policy ought to prioritize admitting skilled workers over reuniting families.
Resolved: The United States ought to submit to the jurisdiction of an international court designed to prosecute crimes against humanity.
Resolved: Public high schools students in the United States ought not be required to pass standardized exit exams to graduate.

the only one I don’t like is the marriage topic.
I also hope that the International Courts one isn’t chosen because I’d rather have that be jan/feb.

Heres my choices.
1. Vigilantism. Perfect mix of philosophy and the real world.
2. Felons right to vote. Social Contract theorists, anyone?
3. Parliamentary government. Fun stuff, with the added benefit of the social contract.
I will scream, however, if standardized exit exams appears.
