Adam Silver Takes the Wake Forest Early Bird
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Wake Forest Early Bird began with a field of eighty-eight competitors. By late Sunday afternoon, only two remained: the Bronx High School of Science’s Adam Silver and Walt Whitman High School’s Rachel Umans. On a 3-2 decision, Adam was crowned this year’s Wake Forest champion. Congratulations to both Adam and Rachel!
Adam is coached by Jon Cruz, Douglas Jeffers, and Taarini Vohra; Rachel is coached by Anjan Choudhury, Tanya Choudhury, Elyse Lyons, Todd Liipfert, and Stephanie Caravias.
The Bronx High School of Science’s Alon Elhanan took home the tournament title in Extemporaneous Speaking. (Further results from the other events are forthcoming.) Walt Whitman High School won the overall school sweepstakes award.

Congrats to Whitman on a great showing all around and breaking so many kids through elims. I definitely judged some great rounds at this tournament and wish everyone luck in the future.
It hasn’t been discussed on this thread yet but I want to thank the Wake Tab Staff on doing a phenomenal job this year. The tournament was running EARLY throughout Saturday and overall was really smooth. There were no locked doors or other troubling encounters and they consistently posted results for all events outside the tab room. The hospitality by the NF parents was up there as well. This tournament is definitely worth putting on your calendar next year.

Knowing that the decision was announced in this manner –
“It’s a 3-2 for Bronx Science!”
– makes me know the final round, and the tournament, was epic. I’m sorry that I couldn’t be there to see you crowned champions, Adam and Alon, but I’m so proud of both you and was so excited to see your silver plates today.
Between these victories and a final round appearance in policy debate at Greenhill, there’s a lot about which to be proud of and a lot about which to be excited. Great job, guys.
Many thanks to alumni Hannah Rothman, Francisco Bencosme, and Paula Cajdler for on-site coaching and assistance throughout the weekend.
Special shout outs to Ellie in LD and Zack and Ian in policy for their individual performances as well.
Finally, congratulations to Walt Whitman on bringing and clearing an army. All I can say is: wow.
