Chris Theis Defends Greenhill Round Robin Title

Westminster Takes Policy Round Robin
posted by Jon Cruz on September 12th, 2008

ADDISON, Tex. — The 2008 edition of the Greenhill Round Robin has come to a close at the Crowne Plaza, just a stone’s throw from Greenhill School. The final round of Lincoln-Douglas debate featured defending champion Chris Theis of Apple Valley High School and challenger Ken Hershey of Scarsdale High School. Anjan Choudhury, Neil Conrad, and Jo Russell voted unanimously for Chris. Congratulations to both debaters!

Chris is coached by Pam Cady Wycoff, Cherian Koshy, and Tim Hogan; Ken is coached by Joe Vaughan and Patrick Diehl.

Chris is the first person to win the Greenhill Round Robin twice. Only one other school — Hendrick Hudson High School, in 1999 and 2000 — has won the round robin two years in a row.

    Paul,
Sorry I couldn’t be there with you, but I have to take care of my family and house during the storm. Good luck at the RR and tournament.

So were the rounds as terrible as all the nay-sayers predicted? Or were the debates actually decent with the oh-so-proper mix of outlandish and stock arguments?

    inquiring minds need to know.

The debates were not representative of the best version of what many students could do. Yet, the best still rose to the top.

Word up to Apple Valley and Scarsdale for getting the job done. Special congratulations go out to Theis and the AV staff for defending the Ghill RR title and getting the year started on the right foot.

The main question: will Theis win as many TOC bid tournaments and RRs this year as Michael Phelps won gold metals?

Chris, congratulations on making history as the first-ever repeat Greenhill Round Robin champion. The TOC allowed you to end your junior year with a win and this round robin allowed you to begin your senior year the same way. Fantastic job!

Congratulations as well to Ken for reppin’ the Northeast and the Mid-Hudson League in Addison this weekend. :o)
