Scott Tucker Wins the TOC
LEXINGTON, Ky. — The 1987 Tournament of Champions concluded with a final round that featured two Floridians. On a 3-0 decision, Twin Lakes High School’s Scott Tucker defeated Miami Palmetto High School’s Craig Tinsky.
The complete field for the 1987 TOC is also available, as are the field reports for 1988, 1992, 1993 and 1994. (As part of my ongoing project of insuring an institutional memory for Lincoln-Douglas debate, I have been carefully organizing, transcribing, and digitizing materials I have found in the Chellgren Center Debate Office at the University of Kentucky.)
Scott was coached by Dale McCall; Craig was coached by Fran Berger.
Underclassmen Gretchen Crosby of Manchester High School, Bryan O’Connor of Yucaipa High School, Scott Robertson of Albuquerque Academy, and Dave Roy of Twin Lakes High School advanced into the elimination rounds and received auto-qualifications to the 1988 Tournament of Champions.
While he did not advance into elimination rounds, Nathaniel Persily of Miami Palmetto High School was the top speaker.
Some of the judges in the elimination rounds included Patricia A. Bailey, Tucker Curtis, Roberta Daws, Eric Di Michele, Marilee Dukes, Reinhold Friebertshauser, Sheryl Kaczmarek, Robert Levinson, Cynthia Maupin, Dale McCall, Randall McCutcheon, Sharon Pennell, Sally Robertson, Julie Sheinman,
