i don't know why you people hate this topic.
i think it's a great topic to debate on.
it would really challenge us on what our true moral values are.

IMHO, I don't like policy flavored argumentation, it tends to get tedious.

And I am gonna make the prediction that regardless of the resolution, there will only be one winner and one loser every round. Its up to you to be the winner.

This topic is going to be poorly debated around the country. That is true. I do believe it could be well debated if the pre-standard stuff doesn't confuse the hell out of the judges. What is an innocent? Is it a child or a non-combatant, or possibly someone who isn't found guilty of a war crime. When you save their lives, does they have to stay saved, or can they off themselves doing speedballs at the Viper Room? And who is it that grants this moral permission anyway? Is there actually grounds for a religious debate here? (yeah I know it gives me the chill too) I realize much of this framework stuff can get tedious, but this seems to be the evolved form of LD. I am a coach. I don't mind. And maybe there is room for a little Policy-flavored argumentation here. Anyone remember Thomas Malthus? Many of you who have commented here are better coaches than I am, and are better debaters than I coach, so I offer my comment with all due respect.

just to silence all the unjustified bitching about there being no potential for research.

p.s. there are topical footnotes too!

I don't mind the topic, simply because everyone has to deal with it, and I know it's not just me getting the boot-in-ass treatment.

Sure, It presents a debate that's been had. Over, And over again. That actually kind of makes me anticipate it more, really, because maybe when we're forced to do it every time, debate will finally create some much needed nuances to bring under the fold. Think about it, when this debate usually happens it's just a pre-written standards dump, but maybe now because we have to dedicate 40 minutes to it, shit will turn out more substantive. Maybe that's just the dreamer in me, I suppose.

Regardless, I see some interesting positions on both sides. I'm writing Agamben into an Aff right now, and it could turn out well or poorly. But at least there are people trying- some of you should do the same. Kudos to Bietz btw, I like what you have to say, good sir.
