I’m actually super curious what everything thinks the Sept/Oct topic will be?

please don’t vote for the icc topic for jan/feb. Regardless of its individual merits and the differences between it and the nukes topic, do you really want to spend another five months on international relations? Outside of the annoyingness of recycled frameworks and cards, it’ll just be more fun to add variety.

that is a ridiculous claim. International relations is an incredibly broad subject, not confined to just a few things run on topics relating to nuclear weapons. It deals with economics, social aspects, as well as specific governmental problems of the US and how its different than the rest of the world. Just because its international relations doesn’t mean it’s going to be repetitive, unless you want to run prolif bad on icc which will make no sense.

Varun I think his point was that a lot of the same concepts (e.g., soveriengty, realism, cosmopolitanism, etc.) could theoretically be hashed out even though they’ve already been debated on multiple IR topics.
That being said, I didn’t vote for it for a few reasons.
1) I feel that the neg ground would suck (having to outweigh sovereignty claims against potential genocide?)
2) I tried to vote for all the non-US specific topics first, mainly because I don’t like US spec. debates as much. The only reasons I picked reservations and torture warrants is because I thought they were the best ones remaining, and the reservations one specified federal government.
3) I think the term ‘crimes against humanity’ is super vague. It is problematic to debate insofar as the aff has to either try to weigh the uber-nebulous ‘crimes against humanity’ or go condo (meaning more theory debates).
4) I presumes American can commit crimes against humanity. And mamma don’t make no junk. (jk)

This picture fails to display how hardcore of a debater Jordan is. When he doesn’t concede lack of solvency, like he did in finals, he is an awesome debater!

come on-
that’s a pathetic plea. Sounds like someone just doesn’t want to do work on a certain topic. strategies differ from topic to topic, and I’m pretty sure anyone willing to do work, will cut cards, not recycle framework cards, as you state. in fact, unless it is the best card out there, good debaters cut new cards on new topics. I promise that if you look back and watch videos or rounds on topic that might be similar, you won’t see alot of cards being “recycled”. There are always better cards out there, and the best debaters look for those cards.
that being said, I think the argument “don’t vote for this topic, it’s boring” is baseless, and just dumb. Topics are rarely every recycled, thus each topic is new, and there are new arguments to be made. plus, nobody forces you to debate the topic, instead of posting on VBD about how bad a topic is or how, “boring” a topic may be, do something about it. Instead of complaining, you can stay home on the weekends, that seems to solve the problem that you are presenting. I don’t want to sound like a jerk, but if you’re going to complain about topics, at least present some warrant or reason why a certain topic is bad, don’t just say “come one, i dont want to do boring debates”.

JORDAN! I’m so proud of you for making the front page of VBD. I know that all you ever talk about is how, some day you hope to be good enough to have your picture on the cover of an article. I, personally, didn’t think you deserved this cover, but obviously Mr. Cruz disagreed with me.
I would also like to thank ” Jordan Lamothe Fan” for making me aware of the fact that my son really isn’t as successful as many would like to think he is. I cannot believe he conceded a solvency burden in finals, pathetic.
Love you sweetie,
Mom
