LAS VEGAS, Nev. — I didn’t get a chance to wish him a happy birthday in person today, so I hope the whole country will join me online in wishing a very happy birthday to Anjan Choudhury, the stellar director of the stellar Walt Whitman High School speech and debate program!

For people interested in getting Anjan something, he is a huge fan of stuffed animals. Perhaps a gift card to build-a-bear?

Happy Birthday Anjan. Words can’t convey our gratitude for your phenomenal resurrection of the Walt Whitman High School debate legacy. Your impact on hundreds of young people in the last two years is history-making. Your vision, devotion, high expectations, leadership hours and personal attention and care to every student (and some of us wobbly parents) have delivered trophies and rankings yes, but also personal esteem, self confidence and intellectual vitality that will change many student lives. Thank you big brown man!
