This is an old version. An hour later J.W. sent out an updated version which confirms that Berkeley still exists and is an octas bid.

Was Princeton always a finals bid?

Ankur — it means that the bid may be lowered or raised. Generally a final e-mail on this matter is sent by summer’s end.
Ryan — it is a new tournament.
Princeton?! — no, it has been reduced.
Daniel, Jason — fixed. :o)

The abbreviation for Nebraska is NE, not NB.
Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. :P

I’m correcting these, but please keep in mind that there are a number of typos in the original e-mail JW sent out. (In an e-mail to the Advisory Committee, for example, I’m Tom Cruz. :o))

I waited four years without being able to travel much in socal with really only vbt being a semi bid for the year I went and now there is like three more in the immediate area…

Congrats to Jon/Bronx on getting the very well deserved bump up to quarters. Did any other tournaments move up, other than the new finals bids at Carrollton and USC? Is the sems bid for UT an improvement or did it have that last year?

USC, Harvard Westlake, Fullerton, Carrolton, ASU (5 new tourneys), Meadows, Auburn, Columbia, Bronx moved up. Whitman, Blue Key, Wake Forrest, Princeton moved down.

This is exciting, there are now 2 semis bids in NV. I’m glad flights from Reno to Vegas are cheap.

Oh yeah, fullerton is CSUF? If so, I hope CSUF changes their date so people can attend it and VBT.

does anyone know if fullerton is gonna change their date? it would suck if fullerton and vbt are on the same date…

Did JW ever used to give out bids to first year tournaments? As I recall, VBT didn’t even get a bid for a couple years. I kind of find this a slap in the face of tournaments that are relatively new but still have a track record.

Ryan — there is precedent for first-time tournaments receiving bids.

June 17th, 2008 15:23
so stanford’s bid status will be determined at the end of the summer?
Posted from: 76.173.173.211
June 17th, 2008 19:41
Maybe VBT will change their date because I recall at the the end of the tournament we received emails inquiring whether we liked the date of VBT or if we wanted it a weekend later or something, but enough people might have indicated they prefer the current date. Or fullerton could lose its bid.

did Liberty Bell Classic have an ld bid last year ?

No LD bid at Penn for a while now.
I’d be willing to bet that it gets it back within 5 years though.

It’s been confirmed that Fullerton moved to October 24-26 (It’s on the site somewhere, so double check my dates)
So, assuming Fullerton holds its LD bid, yay to VBT and Fullerton for the So. Californians!
