Randy Ahluwalia is Florida Novice State Champion

ORLANDO, Fla. — The State of Florida held its State Championships last weekend — April 25 and 26 — at Timber Creek High School. The tournament drew top first-year debaters from across the Sunshine State.

Sixteen debaters advanced to the elimination rounds. By the end of Saturday, two remained: first seed Pine View School’s Arjun Padalia and second seed Lake Highland Preparatory School’s Randy Ahluwalia.

On a 3-2 decision, Randy defeated Arjun to win Florida’s novice title.

Randy is coached by George Clemens; Arjun is coached by Kristin Hanifan. (Clemens notes that Randy is also coached by “the various members of the Lake Highland Varsity LD squad.”)
