Arjun Chandran is North Carolina State Champion

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Tarheel Forenics League State Tournament — the championship event for the North Carolina debate circuit — was held this past weekend at Northwest Guilford High School. The tournament featured four divisions of debate: two of Lincoln-Douglas, and two of Public Forum.

The open division of Lincoln-Douglas featured a final round between Arjun Chandran of Cary Academy and Eli Hornstein of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. On a 3-0 decision, Arjun defeated Eli to win the state title. Congratulations to both debaters!

Arjun is coached by Carole Hamilton and R.J. Pellicciotta; Eli is coached by Katy Fenn.

The junior varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate round featured Myers Park High School’s Lucy Bierer and Durham Academy’s Tristan Belper. Lucy defeated Tristan to win the J.V. tournament. Congratulations to both debaters!

Lucy is coached by Andrew West and Jason Kline; Tristan is coached by Jeff Welty.

Finally, congratulations are in order for the finalists in both divisions of Public Forum debate!

In the open division, Cary Academy’s Andrew Copland and Mikey Rooney defeated Durham Academy’s Robert Kindman and Josh Zoffner on a 3-0 decision to win the tournament. In the J.V. division, Carolina Day School’s Lauren Cary and Cameron Moubray defeated North Mecklenburg High School’s Brecia Young and Nick Tran to win that division’s title. Congratulations to all four teams!
