Field Report: TOC
LEXINGTON, Ky. — J.W. Patterson has released the present fields for the Tournament of Champions in Lincoln-Douglas, policy, and Public Forum debate. The entries — and the judges listed — are subject to change over the next two weeks.
I have posted the fields, as sent by Dr. Patterson, here; the only revision I’ve made was on the Bronx Science entry.
The e-mails within which the fields were sent note that the next update is due on April 25. If you are making a change to your registration, let the community know by posting a comment here!

A reminder to everyone that posts changes to this thread: it’s NOT official. For example, Lexington’s judge is listed as “TBA” as of 4/18. If Mr. Alvarez is fulfilling Lexington’s obligation in LD, Lexington’s coach must notify Dr. Patterson. Also, Apple Valley’s LD judge is listed as Pam Wycoff. If Cherian is judging for AV, he or Pam needs to let Dr Patterson know.

Note from PFD Tab - The only changes that I will make (beyond spelling) will be those that come through Dr. Patterson or Linda Marker, the registrar. We have notified a number of teams that they must provide judges. There are not any hired judges for “rent” at this tournament. At TOC we will double flight the rooms but not the judges.

Dear ugh-
I’m sorry you have an issue with me posting to correct the spelling of one of my coaches, and one of my teammates and friends. If you have an issue with me, feel free to email me. It’s the link from my name. Or, alternatively, post your real name, and actually not be a coward. My issues with certain individuals do not merit that type of behavior from an anonymous person. Those who need to know my real name already do.

1) +1 to Marnold. Go Trailblazers at the PF TOC!
2) +25 to the awesome coach:debater ratios at the TOC, especially in the policy division. It’s always funny to see squads roll HARD there.
3) Good luck to all who are on this list (or who will be added). It’s quite an accomplishment to distinguish yourself as one of the top competitors in your chosen format of debate.
Sincerely,
Michelin Massey

To add to Marnold and Massey, this year could have possibly featured 4 Coloradoan PF teams at the TOC. All four received bids at major national tournaments as well.

as much as id like to congratulate anjan (who is also paying me) i must say there is something messed up when 1 team gets 3 at larges. How Jeff Merril from Mtn View has not recieved one yet, is beyond me.

At-larges go to individual debaters, not teams.
As I said on the last thread, given the committee level voting on an entire field — not one vs. one applicant matchups — it makes no sense to make an endorsement fest or to make bold-faced comparative judgments.
But, if you want to even begin to suggest that Jane (or my other two students) is not worthy of attending, I will happily take on the very easy challenge of defending any of them. No coach should have to do that on a day that there student is given a great opportunity though.
Oh, and before we start - just so you know:
Jane was in FOUR bid rounds, winning one, and losing the other 3 on split 2-1 decisions. One of those split 2-1 losses, by the way, was the quarterfinal round of Bronx. I don’t need to be comparative, you can make that “scoreboard” judgment for yourself.
Much love.

If you are an NFL qualifier this year but your tournament was held after the application deadline, assuming they keep NFL qualifiers as bids, would that count as a bid for next year?

i have a request on behalf of hapless anonymous posters everywhere. will you change the template so that it doesnt say your email address “(will not be published)”? because people interpret that to mean that it wont be possible to see their email address when they post, but it is. it’d probably take a reasonably savvy person about 2 minutes to do.
thanks

public service announcement: if you dont have a paradigm posted on the official paradigm list and you are on the TOC strike sheet, you are doing a disservice to debate. it is my understanding that strike sheets will be active on wednesday - you owe it to the students who have poured their time and money into this activity to have a detailed and coherent paradigm posted by then. there are some judges in the pool for several rounds whose paradigms are nowhere to be found.
