Hockaday's Brianna August Wins Novice LD Title;
Dallas Jesuit Takes Varsity, Novice Policy Championships
COLLEYVILLE, Tex. — The twelfth annual Colleyville Heritage Winter Invitational came to a close late on Saturday. The tournament began with a field of nearly sixty debaters from across the state of Texas before clearing to the octafinal round. The elimination rounds on Saturday evening gave way to a final round that pitted Westwood High School’s Ben Clancy against Westlake High School’s Devin Race. Tristan Vick, Shane O’Neal, and Ajay Ketkar adjudicated the round; on a 2-1 decision — O’Neal dissented — Ben defeated Devin to take the tournament. Congratulations to both debaters!
Ben is coached by Alex Pritchard and Tommy Clancy; Devin is coached by Michael Harlan, Terry Hunt, and Kris Wright.
Congratulations are also in order for the Hockaday School’s Brianna August and Marcus High School’s Victoria Strauser, who advanced to the final round of the tournament’s novice division. In the round, Brianna defeated Victoria on a 2-1 decision to win the novice division.
Brianna is coached by Stacy Thomas and Tom Evnen; Victoria is coached by Carey Petkoff.
Forty-five teams from Texas, New Hampshire, and New York gathered at Colleyville for a competitive tournament that cleared to the octafinal round. In finals, Dallas Jesuit College Preparatory School’s Sean O’Brien & Rich Graham defeated Highland Park High School’s Collin Poirot and Rett Young on a 2-1 decision to win the tournament. Congratulations to both teams!
Dallas Jesuit also emerged victorious in the novice division; the team of Sterling Johnson and Rey Aviles and the team of Joel Diamond and Ryan Gorman closed out the tournament. Congratulations to both teams!
