Congratulations to Maeshal for repeating, Matt for completing his qual, and for Ross for being first seed and first speaker..sucks that the brackets didn’t work out as we’d like. In addition, congratulations to Valley HR for completing their qualification to TOC.
Thank you to the Omaha Westside staff for another well-run tournament and to Fred Robertson and Scott Tomsu for doing an excellent job tabbing; this tournament is always a fantastic time.
Ross’s debate with Catherine in semis was a 2-1.

Also congrats to Valley and Hopkins for great team performances, and especially to Matt for completing the qual.

congrats maeshal. i definitely think this article should make a reference to the fact that he remains “the” westside warrior, something far greater than a mere tournament victory.

I have hesitated posting this for a long time, but after an extended conversation with a fellow gay member of this community, I feel I can’t stay silent anymore.
A lot of us find the term “butt pirate” really hurtful, and it’s especially hurtful to see this term thrown around as some kind of lab or clique nickname. To me, personally, perhaps the most hurtful part of all of this is that I respect all of the people who keep using this term, and I haven’t found a better way of expressing my own feelings about the term’s use.
I am not trying to start a flame war on my own web site, which is why I’ve stayed silent on this for so long. But I hope people will consider the meaning of nicknames bandied about. I can’t really imagine the community condoning a hurtful nickname applied to a racial or religious minority, so I can’t help but feel there’s a double standard at work here.

Dear Jon and anyone that deems the term “butt pirate” to be offensive,
I sincerely apologize for my ignorant use of the term “butt pirate”. The name was never created with any hateful or hurtful intention. I in fact only came to know its negative connotation after reading Jon’s post. Moreover, I really don’t think there’s any kind of double standard being played here. Many people like me, are just unaware of the real meaning of the name. Sorry for the inconvenience.

haha I don’t think anyone meant any offense by the term, however I don’t think playing deer in the headlights is the route to go. What else could it mean?

Shakespearean Sonnet
My love has not been like a burning star,
That always shines into the darkest night.
She has a heart, but looks aren’t up to par.
I see her face and my love won’t ignite.
She is nothing like a soft piece of snow,
For when you look at her, she is not fine.
She doesn’t glisten, gleam, or even glow.
I can’t stand her without a glass of wine.
I feel as though I deserve so much more
Than to enjoy her every night and day,
For even looking at her is a chore.
And this is why my heart begins to stray.
But she’s alone in loving what I lack,
My eyes, which is why I now love her back

Rhyming Diction Verse
Ross Brown got swag you can’t buy in a supermart
Cause after we’re done I’m full like a shopping cart
Variety in terms of fruits and frozen items
But he’s no sub-zero; hot like curling irons
Even on them days when he be down in the gutter
I hear him mutter with his idiosyncratic stutter
“I wish I could grow up to be a bad ass mutha”
Which is when I know that my works complete
Since he has hopes and aspirations to conquer any feat
So don’t let one bid round pull you down son
Just load up your gun and get ready to run
The last case you just wrote, the tournaments just begun
