Ross Brown Wins Iowa State Title
ANKENY, Iowa — The Iowa High School Speech Association State Debate Tournament took place on January 4 and 5 on the campus of Des Moines Area Community College. The tournament featured sixty-two debaters; all competitors with 3-2 records cleared. After clearing to double-octafinals, the tournament continued through to finals, in which Valley High School’s Ross Brown competed against Iowa City High School’s Katie Monson. Ross defeated Katie to claim the state championship, one of two awarded during the season. Congratulations to both debaters, and to Valley High School for claiming the first place sweepstakes award! Ross is coached by Dave McGinnis and Ernie Rose. Katie is coached by Cyndy Woodhouse.
