Congratulations are also in order for the J.V. finalists; in the final round Stuyvesant High School’s Eli Lipsky defeated Timothy Christian High School’s Steven Witaroski on a 4-1. (Coaching credits, a photo of the novice finalists, and extended results follow.)

Thanks to Mr. Yastremski and the Ridge team for an awesome tournament. Everything was on schedule, the judging was great, the competition was excellent, and the food was good.

Zak – i enjoyed our quarters round, loved the plan. congrats.

Congrats to everyone else who broke.

Btw, I may be 100% wrong, but I think the Stuy debater I hit in octas was Jared Durmit.
If you’re still adding info, my quarters rond was a 3-0.

Congrats to Tess and Matt on two really close rounds that could have gone either way. Mike on an interesting Rd. 5, Dan Cook for clearing and beasting, JV Policy for owning, Zak for calling it, Vineet for clearing, and everyone else I’m forgetting.

Um, just a few things: My Quarters round was a 3-0. Semis was not Chrissy Kugel. I don’t think. I think Angela Cai judged in her place and squirreled in that round.

This was a really fun tournament. Thanks to the Ridge team for running a cool tournament. Oh, and the Ridge team is pretty cool too. So is alan’s mom’s dumplings.

The semis between Tess and Matt was extremely close. I heard that two of the judges (both who voted for Matt, in the end) – couldn’t come to a decision for ten minutes after the round as they were looking through the flow of the debate. It was a really intense and interesting match.

Congratulations to the two Matts! We all strive to be gracious in defeat, but it’s particularly easy when the winner is anyone from Monticello, the nicest squad around. Nice job, Mr. Thomas. (And congratulations to Dan and Sabrina as well!)

In addition to Matt, special LD shoutouts to Vineet, Abhi, Matt, and Rupert from a proud coach. On the policy side of things, congratulations as well to Bronx Science’s Ian and Scott for making it to varsity finals (just a few weeks after semis at Villiger!) and to Kristina, Andrew, Max, and Thomas for debating the outrounds as well.

Just something i want to point out while not taking anything away from anyone. I judged JV at ridge and the boy from timothy christian who made it to finals but lost i judged in in JV quarters but i hit him in the varsity pool at wake forest. And there is no reason that someone should be in jv at ridge and varsity at wake

    To Katzman:
In regards to your comment about they guy
from Timothy, I would like to inform you, that when you debated him at wake forest, it was only his second tournament ever and he didn’t even know how to flow. So it is only fitting that he would be in JV because is really where he belongs. Thank you. Have a nice night.

ok well if wake was only his second tournament then it makes sense he was jv at ridge but why varsity at wake? was there only a varsity division?

I think you have mistaken me with someone else. I’ve never even been to north carolina, so I never could have debated you at wake forest. I debated you once at states in varsity, and that was only because there wasn’t any room for me in either the jv or novice divisions (it was only my second tournament).

Steven – you have to explain the justice “picture warrant” thing to me. I didn’t know you posted, so while you’re here, I’d love to hear about your approach to the round. In all sincerity, I am overly interested.

congratulations to Matt, seeing as how he is fairly gnarly.

And, also, good job matt for figuring out in the ride home that if you flip the trophie upside down, it still says 1961. xD

Well, you see. It was like 10 PM and I was exhausted. Yea, so I flipped the trophy over and the 1961 was still 1961; I was like whoooaaaa.
