Alex Bores Takes Villiger

Kevin Neylan and Alex Bores
PHILADELPHIA, Penn. — The Villiger Tournament, one of the largest all-events invitationals on the East Coast, drew top competition from across the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic Region to the campus of St. Joseph’s University. The tournament cleared to the double-octafinal round. After battling their way through the elimination rouns, Hunter College High School’s Alex Bores and Regis High School’s Kevin Neylan faced off in finals. On a 2-1 decision, Alex defeated Kevin to claim this year’s Villiger title. Congratulations to both competitors! (Coaching credits and extended results follow. Thank you to Karlyn Gorski for providing reports throughout the tournament!)
Alex is coached by Noel Selegzi. Kevin is coached by Eric Di Michele.

i’m waiting on a call for breaks, but it’ll just be numbers. so it won’t really be helpful to anyone unless you’re actually here.

Shout out to Nixxi from the Team Bronx Science at the Glenbrooks!
There are many in the outrounds here that I know personally, and I congratulate them all, but I want to take a moment to extend a very special congratulations to Rob Zambito for a breakout performance in LD. Very, very well deserved.

how can that be taken any way BUT offensively??? if you have to start a statement off with “no offense,” it’s probably best to just not say it.

I am consistently amazed by the incredible talent and deep humility possessed by one of the hardest workers and all-around nicest guys in debate, Alex Bores. You deserve every ounce of your success and more. Great job!
I had the opportunity to judge Kevin Neylan at Hen Hud last week and was very impressed. Congratulations on your final round appearance!
Special shout out to Scott and Ian from Bronx Science for making it to semis in policy. And congratulations to NFA on taking the policy tournament!
Finally, I want to congratulate Joe Gazzola for a spectacular job this weekend coaching his Public Forum teams to considerable success. (As noted above, Tina and Dan made it to finals.) Joe received a Bronx Achievement Award at our tournament this year in recognition of his vital role in keeping the Bronx Science team going through some difficult years and it has been an amazing pleasure to have him stick with the team as our PF coach after I came on the coaching staff and became the director. He is one of my very, very best friends and an all-around awesome colleague. Your passion to this youngest of debate events is inspiring. Thanks, Joe, and congrats!
#49 — get a life and get rid of the sour grapes.
To reiterate what I said above:
– Great job, Tina and Dan!!
– Congratulations, Nixxi!
– Congratulatins to Rob Zambito on an overdue and very well-deserved breakout performance.

Cruz, there were three judges in the final round :D. And Cathy Hsu is from Loyola Blakefield.
Major props and thank yous to Alex for winning the tournament and giving me an excellent doubles round.
Congrats to POFO Team Tina Ritter/Dan Wilkofsky for qualling in TWO tournaments and being in finals. You guys are beasting. And to POFO team Laura Maschler/Julia Simon for clearing to octas.
Finally, congrats to Alex K + all the Stuy kids.

Actually, Nixxi, last I heard, a) Loyola Blakefield was an all-boys school, and b) Cathy, who went to Notre Dame Prep as of her time at VBI, still goes to Notre Dame Prep. But if I am wrong, Cathy should correct me.
I will fix the judge thing.
