Completely Open Thread

posted by Jon Cruz on November 5th, 2007

If you’re not old enough to vote, and you do have the day off from school, what do you plan to do on Election Day? Are there any local races in which you are particularly invested? We’re a year away from the next presidential election, and Senator Hillary Clinton and former mayor Rudolph Giuliani hold commanding leads in the race for the Democratic and Republican nominations, respectively. Your thoughts?

Why all the questions? They’re potential topic starters for the first “Completely Open Thread” on VBD since August. I’m in the midst of preparing some exciting new content for the site — including our first “Exclusive VBD Interview” in an admittedly long while — so, dear reader, I turn to you for today’s thread.

Nixxi should likely never say “true dat yo” again. Anyway, I think it’s “tru dat yo.”

I know Vineet was inputting data, but he is better equipped to answer your question, Eric.

Even if the NDR isn’t completely put in, I think Vineet should just put out what he has… it won’t be totally accurate until he inputs everything but at least there will be a general idea of who is what ranking.

Also, I got “I Am America (And So Can You!)”.

Has anyone noticed that the LD Boards have recently become overwhelmed with spam? Literally, about 15 posts a day of spam, all from different users…my suggestion would be to make it such that every person isn’t accepted automatically and provide some identifying characteristic to signify some connection to debate (for example, having them provide a debate schem code or something). OR, we could have a decoy forum section where all the spam bots will get drawn to to post spam (because they appear to post spam in the forum section that has the most posts). Either way, it’s rather annoying to have an entire forum (which, by now, is obsolete considering the topic change) essentially shut down by a bunch of spambots.

Also, Stephen Colbert has been rejected by the SC Democrats as a suitable candidate to run for president: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=14&entry_id=21706

Whippany Park got off for election day because our teachers and board of education havent settle their contract. The teachers all exercised their right to take the day off.

If you just wait for the finished one, it’ll be quicker than waiting for version 2.0. Having Vineet spend his time to compile only a quasi finished spread doesn’t make a lot of sense when he could be using that time to finish it thoroughly.

There is a lot of math and number involved. Also a lot of typing. There are also a lot of tournaments and debaters.

This year’s (and last year’s) NDR has been on a hiatus because of a string in excel that needs to be fixed before I can release the rankings. So, Jeb Puryear, if you’re reading this, email me!
