Babycakes: A Vassar Round Robin Tradition
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. Babycakes is a bakery and cafe in Poughkeepsie, located just off the Vassar campus. It is administered by Susan and Jarek Wysocki, two prize-winning chefs who also teach at the Culinary Institute of America. Catering by this fine little restaurant has been a part of the Vassar Round Robin since its inception. Their sandwiches and assortment of famous dessert treats have been on my mind since I contacted the chefs for this year. Since I’m getting hungry just looking at the menu for this coming Saturday’s event, I figured I’d share it with all of you.
Now that your appetite — both for food and for tournaments — has been whetted, just remember: live coverage of the 2007-2008 season begins this weekend! Chris Castillo will be reporting I will be covering the Vassar Round Robin.
Selections include:
Curried tofu wrap, which contains tofu tossed with grapes, almonds, raisins, and soy mayo (Vegan)
Tuna salad wrap, an all white meat tuna salad with lettuce and tomato
Roasted vegetables and couscous wrap, with goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette (Vegan)
Roasted turkey and swiss, featuring Babycakes’ own oven roasted turkey breast on grain bread or in a wrap with lettuce, tomato, and mayo
Black bean hummus wrap, rolled with peppers, onions, and tomato (Vegan)
All sandwiches are served with a garden potato salad and an assortment of desserts.

You know what — that’s totally true. I’m not sure how I didn’t notice that in the past, haha. I think that goat cheese is not actually used in the Vegan “version.” I should fix that on future invitations. :o)
