VBI@LMU Distinguished Teaching Awards Announced

posted by Jon Cruz on August 30th, 2007

LOS ANGELES, Cali. - Like last year, VBI@LMU featured Distinguished Teaching Awards that were based on student nominations. Unlike last year, however, it was decided to announce the results of these awards at the conclusion of the summer.

Students were free to nominate any lab leader at VBI@LMU. Candidates had to display not only a strong command of the key aspects of Lincoln-Douglas debate but also outstanding commitment to the education of each student at VBI@LMU, a willingness to help students of all levels and abilities, a commitment to creative and effective teaching techniques, and an ability to encourage intellectual discussion. They had to also be generally approachable and available and help produce tangible results in debate ability.

The winner of the Distinguished Teaching Award for 2007 was Nathan Abell. Also receiving honors were Neil Conrad, Welsey Craven, Jeremy Schifberg, and Amanda Liverzani.

I just want to clarify that in no way do teaching awards count for the SCOREBOARD.

Out of curiosity, were these awards determined by a plurality of nominations/votes, an aggregation of other quantitative data from the evals, or qualitatively/by a committee?
