What Tournaments Are You Going to This Coming Season?
posted by Jon Cruz on July 23rd, 2007

In addition to our camp coverage, VBD will continue to report debate news and provide debate commentary throughout the summer. Recently, I posted the news that J.W. Patterson has released the TOC bid levels for this coming season. This got me thinking about my favorite conversation starter during lull times in the season: what tournaments do you and your team plan to attend this season?
Yes, I asked this not too long ago. But now, I think, people are starting to seriously plan.
Anyway, I am not just interested in “national circuit” tournaments. List them all. You know you want to.

Please keep in mind that the Bronx Science team is HUGE (180 kids across LD, policy, Public Forum, and the Individual Events), which is the reason the list below is relatively large.
In addition to the large number of Mid-Hudson League and NYCFL one-day tournaments throught the season, and one or two local one-day speech tournaments in New Jersey, and not counting any individual invitations to tournaments, we’ll be attending the following:
Vassar Round Robin
Grapevine Classic
Greenhill Fall Classic
Yale Invitational
Georgetown Day School
Monticello’s Robert J. Kaiser Invitational
**We’re not “attending” the New York City Invitational (Big Bronx XXXVII), but we hope you will!**
St. Mark’s
Manchester
Florida Blue Key
Apple Valley
Hendrick Hudson
The Glenbrooks
Ohio Valley
Ridge
Blake
MBA
VBT
Lexington
Columbia
Emory
Newark
Scarsdale
Harvard
Lakeland
Northeast Regional Championships
Second Year & Novice Nationals at Woodward Academy
And, we hope, the NYSFL tournament, the TOC, the NCFL, and Nationals. (VEGAS!) It is unfortunate that Woodward conflicts with our state tournament. We will be dividing our team on that weekend.
One or two of these are subject to change, and depending on numbers, we may have to add one or two others. We hope to be back at Georgetown University this year.

Oooo. Chris Castillo and I have flirted with the idea of hosting a challenge tournament at some point in the near future. I had fun hosting one at Vassar in the past and Bietz puts on an awesome tournament at the Skyway Challenge following Blake. This looks like it would be a fun PF event.

As I sat thinking about what a badass I am, I couldn’t help thinking that there’s only one person that’s more of a badass…
1. Nick Tourville once ran theory against himself for being too good…and beat it.
2. Nick tourville doesn’t adapt to judges…they adapt to him.
3. Nick Tourville once double turned himself so many times that he won.
4. Nick Tourville once won on a 5-0 and there was only one judge.
5. Nick Tourville is so fast his speech is over before it begins.
6. Nick Tourville has more blocks than Ben Wallace.
7. Nick Tourville once kicked out of everything…and won.
8. Nick Tourville’s Cross-Examination tactics are prohibited by the Geneva Convention.
9. Nick Tourville doesn’t ask questions…he demands answers.
10. Even if Nick Tourville doesn’t exist, Nick Tourville is still Nick Tourville.
11. Nick Tourville has more bids than ebay.
12. Nick Tourville once closed out finals…by himself.
13. Nick Tourville once broke the 500 wpm barrier opening up a rift in space-time.
14. Nick Tourville uses prep time to edit his opponents cases.
15. Nick Tourville invented affirming, and then invented negating because he was bored.
16. Nick Tourville outweighs God on logical primacy.
17. Nick Tourville once ran 315 apriori arguments and won 316 of them.
18. You don’t take ground from Nick Tourville, you take the ground Nick Tourville gives you.
19. Nick Tourville averages 31.5 speaker points.
20. Nick Tourville doesn’t read his ballots because he writes them .
21.Nick Tourville doesn’t flip pens, he flips people.
22. Nick Tourville doesn’t value justice, he is justice.
23. Presumption always goes to Nick Tourville
24. Nick Tourville advanced past finals.
25. Jesus was the first coming of Nick Tourville.
