Blacksburg Wins Georgetown; Nick Tourville Wins LD Round Robin; Walt Whitman Closes Out Public Forum Round Robin

posted by Ryan Hamilton on March 9th, 2007

Patrick Mahoney and Nick Tourville

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The first Lincoln-Douglas round robin at Georgetown University completed its final round on Sunday afternoon. The round pit St. Louis Park High School’s Nick Tourville against Strake Jesuit College Preparatory School’s Patrick Mahoney. On a 3-2 decision — Tripti Bhattacharya, Fabien Thayamballi, and the students made up the majority, Tanya Choudhury and Pat Fitch dissented — Nick defeated Patrick for the win.

Nick is coached by Christian Tarsney and Heather Hamilton. Patrick is coached by Jerry Crist, Gary Johnson, and Murvin Auzenne.

Alex Edelman & Aaron Schifrin and Ellen Noble & David Winer

Georgetown also hosted a competitive Public Forum round robin, drawing top teams from across Virginia and Maryland. No final round occurred because two teams from Walt Whitman closed out the tournament. Congratulations to co-champions Alex Edelman, Aaron Schifrin, Ellen Noble, and David Winer!

Alex, Aaron, Ellen, and David are coached by Anjan Choudhury and Tanya Choudhury.

The novice policy tournament cleared to quarterfinals on Sunday evening, with semifinals and the final round scheduled for Monday morning. The latter two rounds did not occur, however, as the Bronx High School of Science cleared four teams into the semifinal round, closing out the tournament. Congratulations to the team of Andrew Markoff and Zack Elias, the team of Dylan Gorman and David Seidman, the team of Ian Irlander and Scott Khamphoune, and the team of Regan Bozman and Dee Yusuf for earning the collective title of co-champions!

Andrew, Zack, Dylan, David, Ian, Scott, Regan, and Dee are coached by Sarah M. Heaton, David Marks, and Todd Fine.

You guys…that’s really immature, if you’re going to leave a comment, man up to it. And if you are just going to be mean, don’t say anything at all.

But more importantly, congrat’s to everyone! It was a lot of fun. Look forward to seeing most of you at TOC’s!
