Tim DeSanta and Jonathan Dunworth
SCARSDALE, NY – Congratulations to the finalists at the Scarsdale Invitational! After advancing out of a field of seventy competitors, Regis High School’s Tim DeSanta and Fordham Preparatory School’s Jonathan Dunworth faced each other in the final round. On a 3-0 decision, Tim defeated Jonathan to win the tournament.
Tim is coached by Eric Di Michele. Jonathan is coached by Meg Bratt.
Congratulations as well to the finalists in the tournament’s very competitive novice division! Hunter College High School’s Ted Mateoc defeated Scarsdale own’s Eric Thurm in the final round to win the division. Ted is coached by Noel Selegzi; Eric is coached by Joe Vaughan. first of all i’d like to thank everyone for making this tournament run smoothly… i appreciate everyone’s hard work and dedication… i’d like to give a shout-out to the varsity lders who judged novice rounds… we know it makes the tournament more busy but you guys didnt complain and were very helpful and sporting.
that being said, a huge congratulations to my sister, tara basu, for being an octofinalist and 3rd speaker… and another huge congratulations to eric thurm who tore it up and made it all the way to finals.

I just want to publicly thank my coach, Nixxi Chen. without her, I wouldn’t even have broken. she was incredible throughout the day with her advice and I am now completely ready to kiss her feet and do anything she asks.
also, congrats to everyone who broke/competed in Scarsdale! thanks to everyone who ran it. It was an incredibly fun tournament…especially the food.
