Newark Debates Introduces Outstanding Coach Award

NEWARK, NJ – For the first time, the Newark Debates will honor an outstanding coach of the community for his educational contributions to the debate activity. The recipient of the inaugural honor is Scarsdale High School’s Joe Vaughan.

“Joe is the first inductee into outstanding coach and educators at the Newark Debates and will continue a tradition of awarding achievement in coaching, mentoring, and education through debate,” notes a statement from tournament co-directorDario Camara. “With simple interactions with the Scarsdale team, the impact of Joe on each person’s demeanor, professionalism and talent is apparent. Joe’s leadership as a coach is one the most respected around the country. His ability to craft education into competition is unique and highly defined. His methods are pillars that many coaches use to begin or re-enforce debate squads and his manner and focused personality is one of a kind. Joe continually coaches students to high out rounds at the most prestigious and highly competitive tournaments. His achievements reach far beyond competitive coaching, making sure every member on his team dresses well, respects the debate activity and the individuals which make up the activity and never forgets the purpose of debate: to educate and create the leaders of tomorrow. Congratulations to Joe and thank you for all your hard work.”

This award will be presented this Friday night.
