Greg Hertz Crowned Bump LD Champion; NFA Takes Policy, Lake Highland Wins PF

Evan Seitchik and Greg Hertz
OUTSIDE MONTROSE, NY – After departing the outer perimeter of the greater Montrose area, I finally escaped the intergalactic wireless chip dampening system installed by Jim Menick to make my posts to VBD difficult. So, I can report, belatedly, the final round results of the annual Malcolm A. Bump Memorial Tournament at Hendrick Hudson High School. Breaking with tradition because the tournament ran ahead of schedule, this year’s Bump featured a final round, in which, Millburn High School’s Greg Hertz defeated Lexington High School’s Evan Seitchik to claim the storied, long-standing tournament championship. Congratulations to both debaters!
Greg Hertz is coached by Peter Petraro and Brian Raymond. Evan is coached by Lynne Coyne and Matt Scarola.
Congratulations are also in order for the finalists in policy debate: Newburgh Free Academy’s Neil Patel and Rob Zambito, and Lake Highland Preparatory School’s Claire Ziegler and Arianna Guzman! In the final round, NFA defeated Lake Highland on a 2-1 decision to win the tournament.
Neil and Rob are coached by Sheryl Kaczmarek and Michael Bacon. Claire and Arianna are coached by George Clemens.
Finally, congratulations to Lake Highland Preparatory School’s team of Shaz Jafri and Jordan Rubin and Needham High School’s team of Hannah Freeman and Mike Lintz. The four debaters competed in the final round of the first-ever Public Forum Debate tournament at Bump. Lake Highland defeated Neehdam in the final round and claimed the title.
Shaz and Jordan are coached by George Clemens. Hannah and Mike are coached by P.J. Wexler.

A Compendium of Things I Learned At Hen Hud
–Free will does not exist
–It is possible to use a gun to actually shoot yourself OUT the door (and thus, away from your oppressor)
–Although still up for debate, Greg Hertz resembles none other than the Easter Bunny (or perhaps other bunnies?)
–3 AM IM conversations are now valid psychological warrants
–Indians are very good at math problems
–In LD, we do a little something called impacting
–THERE IS NO CONTEXT IF THE RESOLUTION DOES NOT SPECIFY IT
–lol.
Sincerely,
Naveen (who is also not God, on a 3-0 decision)

henhud was a really really awesome tourney – i had an amazing time in addition to what were definitely the most competitive rounds i’ve had this entire season so far against some of the most talented debaters out there. congrats to:
1. my darling shivi for going 3-0 on her neg running something based off of some really sketchy dream thing (?), and for being the sweetest and best teammate everr
2. sporkin for our sweet 4-0 round in prelims in which he thoroughly deserved his win (and for the QUAL!!) :D
3. RidgeSC – steph is a really smart debater and superduper nice; congrats on doing really well in our round, regardless of how the judge may have ended up voting, and i’m sure you’ll get ur second bid real soon this year!
4. jason for picking up in our doubles round (very legitly)
5. …greg’s amazingness goes w/o saying. he’s won both tourneys he’s competed in so far this year and he’ll be winning 97982374783211 more before the season’s over. congrats to him for henhud/qualling/awesomeness
