Hockaday Closes Out the Vassar Round Robin

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Vassar Round Robin has just concluded with the first close-out in its history: the Hockaday School’s Joan Gass and Lindsay Dolan advanced to the final exhibition and were declared co-champions. The tournament drew sixteen very talented and highly promising third- and second-year debaters from across America to the Vassar College campus for two days.

Joan and Lindsay are coached by Stacy Thomas, Tom Evnen, and Matt Shields.

    I spent approximately 18 hours in a car this weekend, but it was worth it (I think).

    Congrats to all the competitors, especially Lindsay and Joan (the Troublemaker to End All Troublemakers), and thanks to Jon for doing his usual spectacular job.

    How Chetan spent more time in a car than me is a question best left unanswered (and I drove to and from DC - but I averaged 80 on the highway on the way back and 75 on the way up). Nice to meet some new faces in the coaches and students, all of whom have a very good future in front of them.

    And, of course, thanks to Dave McGinnis and Jon Gordon for the tournament entertainment :) !

    Thank you J Cruz for running a great RR. The food, judging, and the pretty trophies made Vassar amazing. The participants made the competition intense, but the down time fun.

    I just want to say that Joan is absolutely amazing. I debated her last year and it was so much fun.

    And to hockaday as a whole, way to turn out so many debaters that are not only good, but fun for everyone to debate.
