Countdown to Nationals: A Week of Fun

posted by Jon Cruz on April 11th, 2006

GRAPEVINE, TX and COLLEYVILLE, TX - Historical attractions, local art, the Texas Motor Speedway, a nationally-renowned live country music show, a Schwan’s Party for students, and an open ceremony at Six Flags Over Texas: needless to say, Billy Tate, Scott Wunn, and tournament co-hosts Jane Boyd and Cindi Timmons are ensuring that this year’s Bluebonnet Nationals has both sponsored events and area attractions that will make it one of the best national tournaments in memory. When not competing, what plans have you and your team made for celebrating your success?

The Conspiracy Museum totally pwnz. Many conspiracy theorists believe the JFK assassination to be the modern-day ground zero of many different conspiracies.

um. i am speaking for the entire coaster enthusiast community when i experience the shock and flagrant mistake in the name of the opening ceremony location.

Six Flags Great Adventure is located in Jackson, Miss. and is the reknowned place of Kingda Ka, the world’s largest coaster, and huge coasters such as El Toro

im sure you meant SIX FLAGS OVER TEXAS, which is the original six flags theme park, and home to notables such as titan and mr. freeze

regardless of the mistakes, i can’t wait until my first nationals.

I’m glad they’re opening up all of the activities.
six flags will be fun, plus they follow the traditional activities..

most teams actually have to pay for most of these events or they’re covered by entry fees. it also helps the local economies where the nationals are held (bring people out to see the area)

overall, it creates a better experience. nationals are supposed to be special, one of a kind event, and they do their best to emulate that. im happy that they’re doing a lot to make people feel welcome and to make it an experience beyond the debate room

i dont know about you but theme parks terrify me and make me afraid that a certain crazy frenchman (”thinker”) is right. I, however, am looking forward to makng a second attempt at what I failed to accomplish at Greenhill: conquering the one pound platter of texas bbq’d meat.

Pretty pumped about attending my first nationals in debate, rather than student congress. Being Representative Scoggin was pretty sick, but I prefer LD. However, I am terrified of rollercoasters. And Texas.

    See y’all there.

“why doesn’t the NFL spend its money on debate?”

Eh TOC doesn’t either at least this goes back to the partcipants. Those pretty horse trophies don’t really matchup with the $100-$150 price of admisssion.

I’ve heard an ugly rumor about Nationals 2020 located in sunny Jackson, NJ. All IE will be done while riding Kingda Ka or another similarly sized rollercoaster. All debates will be done on the bumper car course that is enclosed in a steel cage.

I thought 5 years ago, when the NFL rented out Six Flags in Oklahoma for the afternoon, it was pretty fun. Also, there were no lines, because the only ppl there were associated with the tournament. I think some of the coasters were closed, though.

Also, the Six Flags themeparks are not remotely close to the Disney parks in how terrifying they can be.

Just a clarification - The Six Flags opening Ceremony will be at the ORIGINAL and still the best (in my humble opinion) Six Flags (also the only Six Flags where the name fits). :D

Secondly, IN OKC - Frontier Land was fun - but not THE SIX FLAGS.

Just ribbing ya’ll. We are planning a great time down here and we hope you are excited to be visiting our great Republic, oh I mean state. :D

umm 6 flags over texas is the bomb. I urge all of you to go to the restaurant over near batman and mr.freeze (i completely forgot the name of it, sry). it’s kinda on the corner n it’s like a 50’s burger joint. its good stuff.

also, if the “nationally renowned live country music show” is at billy bob’s (yes that’s the actual name) in fort worth, i suggest all of you folk who dont paticularly enjoy country to go across the street to either a) the dance club or b)The Door, which always has decent local alt/rock/death metal/emo-bitch/indie music. i give it two thumbs up!

How often is the qualifier watch updated, and how do they get the info? Because I know that the Chesapeake district tournament was held at the beginning of the month, but still hasn’t been put up yet.
