The Road to the NCFL
NEW YORK, NY – The NCFL generally qualifies students to Grands through smaller “grands”: qualifying tournaments sponsored by the local league organized by diocese or archidiocese. (Some dioceses also have a multiple-tournament procedure, or award qualifying spots through other means.) Since it seems a tad more difficult to gather news leading up to the NCFL than it does to gather similar news leading up to Nationals, I’ve decided to two questions here on VBD to make use of our comments feature. When is your qualifying tournament? Who is your school sending? (A third question: who has your school qualified?)
Results will be posted on Qualifier Watch. Current results are available here.

The Archdiocese of New York has its qualifier this weekend. Bronx Science is sending Sarah Hom, Hannah Rothman, and Ting Ting Tam. Joel Rothman, Theresa Hom, and I will be judging.
I believe the qualifier for Rockville Centre (Long Island) was this weekend. Who competed? Who qualified?

P.S. Nisky Kid, Who are you? Why don’t you actually come out of your annonymity so we can see who you are?
Is it Alex Williams? With your amazing 12-13 circuit record? Or perhaps Neil, with your equally impressive 14-12. I don’t think Boyang(18-6) would stoop to that level, and I don’t think it’s Sohail or Aditya (6-18,1-5 respectively.) So forgive me if I don’t tremble before the amazing legitness of Nisky. (Except Boyang Zhou, who I have immense respect for.
Dude. Stop being bitter and win a round for once.

Berkeley Carroll will be sending:
myself
Peter Damrosch
Emily Cunningham
Aarian Marshall
From Poly Prep there will be:
Oliver O’Connel
Janissa (don’t know her last name)
On a side note, how have other qualifier touraments been? The grand qualifier for us that was held yesterday had a total of five varsity debaters from two schools. This meant it was held as round robin, where each debater debated everyone else, including their own teammates.

Peter bidded at a different quailifying tournament a few weekends ago that I wasn’t at, so unfortunately we didn’t get to debate yesterday.

Agreed with Shea till he started mentioning records. Even though i think “nisky kid” is an idiot, to keep things fair, Mr. Strausman has the amazing record of 3-3, ranking at somewhere south of 1000. There is a 400 rank gap between Strausman and Alex Williams and an even greater one between the other debater (neal). (this assuming that rankings matter, which i guess they do to Mr. Strausman since he brought it up)
My point, stop playing debates equivalent of “mine’s is bigger than yours”

Nisky kid is none of the niskayuna varsity debaters…….Shea even novices have started to appreciate your asinine demeanor and equally crappy debate skills. With that said good luck at Ncfls , after allyou had the amazing road of debating TWO of your team mates at the EVER so difficult qualifier where u had that the glorifying record of 2-1( beating alana well speak , whom has been beaten by Niskayuna first years) And remind me Shea , oh thats right you have been beaten by niskayuna first years also. With that being said , its ridiclious for you to post the circuit records of niskayuna varsity debaters especially since you have a year more expereience on the national circuit than they do , not to mention that both alex and neal went from novice to varsity and can still skin your hide faster than you can blink.
peace out

you guys really need to chill, and by that i mean albany needs to. maybe if you had some decent debaters and a less asinine attutude, shea, you would garner somme respect. you can ask any legit debater on the national circuit about niskayuna including, but not limited to, bz and they will support them. the point is that albany=terrible but they think theyre good and niskauyna=decent and respected, and thus albany should stop trying to pick fights with nisky. they are the only school that has done so, which is saying something. by they way (this goes out to brad), sliming (going new in the 2 in case you don’t like jargon) is a low thing to do, though it is in fact the only element of your debate skillz that can win you rounds.
peace out

Hey, it’s brad cramer. Nisky anonymous, i really don’t appreciate your comment. I don’t think this site is a place for argument. I qualified for catholics, i am passing on my bid if you care to know. If anonymous would like to challenge me to a debate at some point in the future i would glady accept. Please keep the slander to a minimum. In response to your statement, neil is the only nisky debater to defeat me. I have respect for him along with other nisky kids i have faced, alex williams, abbie alger, etc. By the way, my record on the last resolution was 15-1. This anonymous “debater” is probably a novice, considering that most other members of the team (sohail, boyang, neil, aditya) are too mature to stoop to this low a level. See you guys later.
P.S. please stop arguing, debate isn’t everything. Throwing words around is pointless.

I’ll list the members of the Nisky team that I have respect for:
Boyang Zhou because he’s a phenominal debater.
Sohail Sayeed, because he’s generally a nice guy.
Aditya, because he’s been a class act every time I talked to him.
The rest of you are cocky, arrogant assholes, and need to step off. You make some sort of comment about first year debaters beating me, but if you’ll remember correctly, both the first year debater in question, and the other person in the room said I won that round. As for your team ‘beating me’ all the time, there is not a single one of you with a winning record against me locally. That’s right, even Boyang is 2-5 against me. So cut the crap, and the call outs, because they’re stupid. Locals don’t matter, and I know I’m not a great debater compared to many nationally, but I do know that I could take any of your varsity debaters excluding boyang who would be difficult appart without breaking a sweat.
What I take exception to is when your team comes on this site and starts bitching about how they beat us all the time and acting like cocky assholes, just because you’ve got sour grapes.
By the way, that was a clever strategy posting three times and agreeing with yourself, too bad it can be seen through by a four your old, because your rhetoric is exactly the same each post. I’ve got an idea ‘nisky kid’ and ’stop the arguing’ why don’t you IM me, My screen name is thesheamuffin, and we can work this out privately.
Feel free to post after this, get in the last word, I won’t respond, because I’m done with this stupid bullshit.

Shea, and all the other Albany debaters that happen to be wandering this thread, on behalf of my team, I’d like to apologize.
Niskayuna debaters, stop it, this is immature and completely inappropriate for this or any other public forum.
Sorry for diverting attention away from the CFL qualifiers, congrats to everyone who did well.

Thank you Boyang. Apology accepted. From talking to Sohail and Neil, it seems that it was some random novice who said that stuff. I’m sorry I let it get to me like that, and calling out your team by records was totally uncalled for on my part.

Shea , ” nisky kid” was neither alex Williams nor I , it seems you have more enemies than you had thought, but also all of the three ” stop arguing” posts were made by different indviduals.
i second boyangs apology on behalf of the team especially to brad and alanna whom have done nothing to merit bashing on a public forum . I caution our debaters not to not post diatribe on a public forum under labels identified with niskayuna such as ” nisky kid” becuase it makes the whole team look bad. If you wish to take it with Shea privately, his sn is Thesheamuffin.
That being said , congratulations to all debaters who did well at the qualifiers and good luck at the tournament.

“Shea , ” nisky kid” was neither alex Williams nor I , it seems you have more enemies than you had thought, but also all of the three ” stop arguing” posts were made by different indviduals.”
I think it’s already been well established that it was none of you guys who did this, although I have not talked to Alex, and I don’t think I have any enemies outside of your team, and there is no doubt that all the ’stop arguing posts’ were made by your team, but I have already apologized for singling you guys out like that. It was wrong of me. Lets move forward and forgive each other. You and I just had a good IM conversation, and sohail and I are happily talking about foucalt, so lets all just drop this now.

word.
Niskykid should be ashamed of themselves, whoever it was. Albany and Nisky used to be chill, then they put up some crazy post that sparked tension between both teams. Either way, it doesn’t matter who is “good” or who is “better.” What happens is you go into round, you debate, and one person wins. Previous records don’t matter, nor does somebody’s “skill level.” In the end, records and skillz would not have come up had niskykid not made a dumb post to begin with.
Thus, niskykid should be ashamed of themselves and everybody should be chill with each other again.
