Matt, Brandon and Greg – congrats.

A MASSIVE congratulations to a few of the hardest working kids in debate: Josh Meah, Dean Fleyzor, John Monagle, PACO AND MIKE (NOVICE DOMINATORS) and Joey Broccoli.

And one of the most dedicated coaches in the activity, Mr. Cooper, should definitely be proud of the 3rd place team sweeps trophy.

    1. Some panels and ballot counts:
My quarters panel was a 3-0, Alston, Reilly, Koo
My semis was a 5-0, Duby, Conception, Lou, two others
Petraro dissented for Levinson in quarters

    2. I’d like to recognize Jake McNulty, because although he didn’t share in the co-championship, he was just as deserving; he didn’t lose an outround. Jake is a really smart debater that has improved so much in the last year- I just want to publically recognize his accomplishment that happened to be masked by the way that seeds worked out.

Congrats to ALJ for its most successful debate day in its existence by placing third in sweepstakes. Congrats to Josh on clearing, Broccoli for cleaing for your first time in ld, Paco for being 5-0 and first speaker, Mike for being 2nd seed (5-0) and making it to finals, and Dean, Mr. Cooper, Patrick Keating, Kevin Judd, and Sam Duby for being incredible. Awesome job guys!!!!

States ran really well with very good competition and a very solid judging pool for NJ. Congrats to Brandon, Jake, and Greg for dominating varsity and Usha for winning JV. In addition to winning varisty and jv, Millburn’s Tess McNulty defeated ALJ’s Mike Calavano in the finals of novice finals completeing the third leg to the Millburn close-out in every division.

In addition, congrats to all that cleared and met their goals for the tournament.

mike calavano, 2nd place novice, 2nd seed 2nd speaker,
    joey broccoli, 5th place jv

Michael said: even though the pulled pork sandwiches sold out within 7.3 seconds.

I’ll pass that on to Mr. Newby….we’ll have more. Doubt we can make them kosher however.

Next year: ALJ parent judges! With training! Resisting the temptation to give back as we have gotten :)

Actually, many parents who offer to judge become excellent ones. Some examples include Mr. McPhillips from South Glens Falls; Mr. Vohra from Millburn; Mr LaMagna from Freehold., and many from Ridge. The key is careful training. I understand that Ridge gives the parents at least 6 hours of thorough training.
