    LIVE UPDATE FROM THE SERR:

As debaters finish the 3rd round of competition a few things become clear:

    1) Eating too much Indian food can have negative consequences. Just because it’s good doesn’t mean you should keep eating.

    2) Burning the ballot is an unacceptable performance. Don’t risk setting off the smoke alarms. And don’t tell me that’s a fear I should deconstruct.

    3) “Borrowing” a tv from a classroom to watch “The Office” is not okay. Janitors will snitch.

    4) Jean Baudrillard is a dirty french nutjob.

    5) Jean Baudrillard is tight.

    6) Peter Van Elswyk is a sexy beast.

    7) Is the definition of “is” important? How about now?

    8) “Justice to come” makes us giggle.

    9) Everyone must stop saying “this argument is a priori” and instead say “I call firsties”.

    10) Imagine all contestants having a slumber party at Schifbergs house. You can’t, can you? What will they talk about? Conditionality? Pen flipping? Or just awkward silences? My money is on the last. One thing seems inevitable: Greg Nance WILL lick someone.

    Baudrillard ‘81
“Powdered water: just add water to get water.”

    More updates tomorrow.

Jeremy Schifburg is intense, and his parents are even cooler. The Washington and Oregon debaters are hella legit, which will be seen at TOC and Sford/Berk. Wes Craven runs Round Robins the way they should be run: Chill. And most importantly, the Thai Restaurant we went to on the last day was ridiculously good, and the most entertaining dinner I have ever had in my debate career. As always, Nick Coburn-Palo, Lexy Green, and Neal Yuan can coach anyone to success.

Thanks to everybody for coming. Even though my “ospec” got me last speaker, the RR was still a great time. It was cool that everybody was able to make it in the end.

Thanks to Sam Reis-Dennis. It probably was the “o-spec” that hurt the speaks, but if it hadn’t been for his organizing, contacting and harassing myself and others, none of it would have happened. I had a great time and I just wanted to thank him for making me put it all together.

I believe 4 people were tied with 4 ballots. Neal Yuan, Mostafa Heddaya, One person from Bellevue (either Ben Hudgins or Greg Nance) and one person from Lakeridge (either Bert Ma or Scott Devoid). No one had 5 ballots. Jeremy and I had 6 each.

I’d just like to note that this is a South Eugene RR repeat for Jeremy. What a stud. He was awesome last year in finals too. Congrats to Jeremy and Jay for the success, and shout out to my boy Nance too. He’s only a Junior and he’s an awesome debater.

Wait, was the RR broken up into pods, or were there 9 rounds, 1 ballot each round…?

Either way, congratulations to both finalists.

I learned two things at the RR:

    1) Jeremy’s bunkbed is really uncomfortable.

    2) Jeremy’s little brother carrying around huge swords at 2 AM makes me really uncomfortable.
