Into the Great Wide Open: An Open Thread

posted by Bietz on December 29th, 2005

SANTA MONICA, CA - We’re coming close to the end of 2006. Over on TheVi.be I posted a list of predictions for 2006 as thought up by a friend of mine over at Fimoculous.com. I’ve always been one to ring in the new year in a rather subtle fashion. Normally, I make big plans to go out and party like a rock-star. In the end, though, I usually flake on my plans and just go to bed early. This year, now that I live in LA, I suppose I ought to give the rock-star plans a try. We’ll see. How will you spend your New Year’s Eve?

Oh! Remember the completely open thread doesn’t need to be about this topic. That is only a potential starter. As per usual… Rant, Rave, but please be respectful!

I like road trips… especially the kind where I don’t get clocked going 105 in a 75… even more so the ones where I get away with it ;)

I’ll be celebrating the New Year here in the heart of the Coalition of the Willing’s all too often forgotten member, Poland. I will be rocking the casbah in Bydgoszcz… which probably means going to sleep at like 10pm. Maybe I’ll go to the casino… but doubtful. I’ll let you guys know how the New Year is 9 hours (GMT+1) before it hits the West Coast if I stay up that late, so no real need to party after 3pm at the VB offices ;)

By going to some random party.

And by hiring Chuck Norris to roundhouse kick all of Times Square in the face.

I’m listening to the live version of If You’re Feeling Sinister that I just got, and I really like it. I haven’t seen a live show (any) in more than a year; I should.

I’m *addicted* to MySpace, and lying around isn’t helping that addiction.

I’ll still be at my parents’ on New Year’s Eve, but, given that I seem to be recovering fully, I should be back at my apartment next week. I just wish I could party it up at the Equinox, Bietz-style.

last year, my new years eve celebration featured a piano sing along of “Desperado.”

i think that’s funny because victor did a pretty sweet karaoke version of it on the last night of vbi…it brought me to tears.

Sorry (and I don’t blame Anjan for getting annoyed!) — I had messed up when I tried to format them and had to redownload everything. They’ll be up tomorrow, after several false starts.

    Jon,

I’m soooo not annoyed, nor am I the panda in this case (if I could be an animal, I wonder what I would be. hmmm). GET REST! The pictures will go up on VBD at some point in the future if they really need to.

If anyone is really pining for the Princton pictures, you can email me directly, and I will forward them along to you.

Haha has everyone heard about that kid who ran off to Iraq and had to be sent back? The news article says he goes to Pine Crest and is “on the debate team.” Dear dear, these debaters, always trying to save the world from nuclear war.

    Damn, 2 Johns…

    John S-

They’re not. They’re more interested in heated debates about current political topics and events. He must be a PFer because he debated current events with random guys near a mosque. Plus, he’s into journalism.

    John 2-

    Because people like you exist.

“Hassan, whose parents were born in Iraq but have lived in the United States for about 35 years, says he has no religious affiliation. However, he decided to hang out at a local mosque, even spending an entire night until 6 a.m. talking politics with a group of Muslim men, a level of immersion his teacher characterized as dangerous and irresponsible.”

I had nearly forgotten that discussing politics with muslims is “dangerous” and “irresponsible”. Thanks for reminding me, CBC. Don’t want to get too immersed there!

Alex, I think we all know that your comment about Pfers wasn’t what you made it out to be in your last post. Don’t be dishonest: just say that you were joking.

I’m impressed that I have such a huge influence on your life! I didn’t know that i could cause you to be a jerk! Thanks!

Btw You don’t know what kind of person I am. I was, in fact joking when i said ‘why do you have to say negative things’ I’ve said things like that before myself, just not in such an innapropriate forum.

Lets end this. email me if you care. I won’t be posting again on this topic.

Aardvark: Dude, i thought the exact same thing when i read the article. I guess it is dangerous to talk to muslims for more than 2 hours at a time, or they will brainwash you. BEWARNED. dangerous immersion my a**.
And yes, you are a celeb now. So are alex and I! Whoot lets start a club.

I dunno, your email address sounds weird.

So anyway, how the guy managed to sneak away from his parents, the government, and pretty much all but his relatives in the Middle East confounds me.
