Get Well, Jon Cruz!
MINNEAPOLIS, MN - For those of you who were in attendance at or following the Blake Tournament this past weekend, you probably noticed that Jon Cruz, his camera and his VBD updates were noticeably missing. Many of you heard that Jon was sick during most of the tournament. Even though he had thought he was getting better, Jon went to the doctor at a local hospital to make sure he was ok. He found out, yesterday, that what he has is a viral heart infection induced by food poisoning. He will be fine, but his doctor told him he cannot travel for a month. This is nothing that should alarm anyone, but Jon being Jon, he wanted everyone to know that he is sorry that he won’t be able to attend the VBT, the Bronx Tour and other tournaments through January. As per Jon’s wishes, The Tour will go on. For those of you signed up, you will hear from me, personally, very soon.
So, get well soon, Jon. I hope I remember to format all these posts to your specifications. We will try to survive here at VB without you!

Jon,

Hooray for Minnesota, the food poison capital of the US. If the undercooked entrees dont get you, there is always the cold, west nile (mosquitos), large wild animals, poorly constructed roads, and wood chippers.
Get well soon, Jon. Way to be a trooper.

The victory briefs tour is going to be a glummer place without you, Jon. As I told Peter, now there isn’t gonna be anyone to not turn me away because I sent my application in way late.
Food poinsening sucks - now you know you really can’t trust the hotdogs vended on street corners. Rest up, get better soon, and the debate community will be awaiting your return with open arms.

Thank you all for your kind words of support. The posts here and many e-mails I received meant a lot to me and, now that I have had the chance to read them, will definitely aid in the recovery process.
To answer a question I received from some people, the specific condition with which I have been diagnosed is myocarditis, an uncommon condition caused by viral infections. The heart muscle itself becomes rapidly inflamed and weakened, and causes pain on the level of a heart attack. This was actually a far more serious (and of course, far scarier) condition than what we had originally believed I had.
Needless to say, these were the scariest four days of my life. Fortunately, I’ve been discharged from the hospital and will be recovering for at least the next month back in New York. As a student of Victorian history, I understand the rationale behind the classical “rest cure,” despite how upset I am that I’ll be missing some of my favorite tournaments, all of which are upcoming, and that I won’t be able to even come into work in person for a little while.
Thank you again for all your support. If you ever feel continuous chest pains, do not hesitate as I almost did: check yourself into a hospital immediately.
I’m supposed to rest and relax, and while I might be wheelchair-bound for a bit, I can’t think of anything more restful and relaxing than posting on VBD, so I’m sure I’ll be back sooner than later.
You rock. :o)

So go sleep, watch “Willa Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” or all 6 of the “Star Wars” movies (hey, you have time - why not?!), and have the happiest, HEALTHIEST new year you possibly can.
