VBI Information Packets Sent Today!

posted by Michelin Massey on May 23rd, 2005

SANTA MONICA, CA - This afternoon, I emailed all enrolled students and parents/guardians a copy of the VBI@UCLA and Session II information packet. It is vital that all enrolled students, and their parents, complete these forms by June 20th, 2005.

We will accept the forms via FAX (208-248-9801) and through regular mail. The office address is listed above (2811 Wilshire Blvd #580; Santa Monica, CA 90403).

If you did not receive the information packet, that means that we do not have your correct parent and/or student email addresses on file! Please contact me at michelin@victorybriefs.com in order to get your correct email address information into our system.

In case we have not met already, I am looking forward to meeting each of you at this year’s sessions of VBI@UCLA and Session II!

Sincerely,

Michelin Massey

    Michelin,

The packet tells us to send in one NC and one AC from some topic this year. Can we send in cases we never ran (i.e. Nats, NCFL)? Because I think that would show our latest case-writing skill as it has developed, rather than something from September, where our debating, needless to say, was probably not where it is now.

As a quick side note to all students who have e-mailed me with housing requests, or who have passed those requests along to Michelin: please be sure to make your request again in these new forms so that we can finalize them. Thanks!

    Naveen,

Great question. We would prefer that you send us a case you actually debated that represents your case writing abilities. I hope you’ve debated more recently than last September!

VBI info packet eases the pain of not being able to debate for months.

mmmmm *rereads packet for the 5th time*

So I guess now we should know who all is going… where is the general roll call?

Mayde Creek JD (Jeremy Dudley) is rooming with Berkeley Carrol JL (Jacob Levi). PIMP!

VBI alumnus Peter Phillips will be joined by thirteen other debaters from Bronx Science: Annie Chen, Steve Chau, Sarah Hom, Marina Kushnirsky, Sasha Kollontai, Corinne Kwan, Jan Michael Maluto, David Morse, Melanie Plaza, Hannah Rothman, Elizabeth Tam, Ting Ting Tam, and Jing He Zhu. (I’ll be at both VBI@UCLA and Session II, but all fourteen Bronx debaters will be at the first session.)

could vbi try to provide some form of secure place to store things during our stay?

i remember last year having a large amount of cash that was really unnecessary to keep in the room, and with cleaning ladies and random kids coming in and out of my room, not very safe either.

    ideas for a solution?

For those that are concerned about their valuables at camp,
We can definitely rfid all of your belongings and you and upload them into our tracking database. No wait, we can’t do that.
The camp is actually relatively safe. Most instances of things missing were actually instances of belongings being misplaced or lost.

Additionally, I do not believe that the cleaning crew will be lifting any of your belongings.

That being said I think that you guys can follow some simple guidelines to make sure that nothign gets lost or stolen.
    1. Don’t bring an excessive amount of cash.
    2. If you’re worried about your cash hide it somewhere where people won’t easily be able to find it.

    Actually, thats about it.

“So I semi-finaled in LD, which is cool. Dropped on a 3-2 to Justin Hinojoza, putting me 1 ballot away from a good 14 minutes of VBD fame. Oh well.”

Some people have, Jen, but it’s just as common for people to request roommates from outside of their school. Most people don’t request roommates, though…we try to spread out people in terms of geography as much as possible so you can meet people from outside your area! Hundreds of students will be attending VBI this summer from all over the nation, so it’ll be a great opportunity to meet students from across the country.
