Best of Luck to Those Headin’ Out to Kentucky

posted by Jon Cruz on April 28th, 2005

Live from the TOC
Live from the TOC
I’ve heard a school or two from Texas is already there, and I know we leave from New York tonight. Given that so many competitors and coaches will be in town for the Tournament of Champions by tomorrow, it seems only appropriate to start the good luck send-off today!

This is it: the 2005 edition of the national circuit championship. The most elite title in the country. The road to the TOC ends this weekend. Victory Briefs would like to wish the best to all seventy-six competitors this weekend.

It’s time to celebrate your friend, boost your teammate, give an ovation to your student, encourage your child, or, perhaps, best of all, post a good luck message to someone you haven’t spoken to but who has inspired you during this season. The TOC brings out the “self-appointed cheerleader” in us all: put it to productive and positive use and give a shout out to the person for whom you’re rooting!

Good luck!

Word up to the MV boys, Asmitty, and Shih. It was a plreasure working with you all this year. You four make the struggle worthwhile.

Also good luck to adwait, petey, fabien, hirsh, jacob, leiter, and corbin. You’re the guys that make judging boring ass stock rounds worthwhile.

And even tho I already mentioned him above: love to prai. There’s more reasons for me to say thanks to you than cards that you’ve cut on this topic.

Finally, to everyone else: in the words of Allen Injinjian: don’t suck.

Good luck all those competing. I predict Jeremy Dudley and Michael Mangus as the two dark horses of the TOC this year. Good luck also to Wolfish, not that luck is involved at all with all the work the guy does.

I dunno what I am more sad about:
a.) that boyle has me squirreling the the final round of the TOC
b.) that he has me squirreling with Andy O’Connell :)
c.) that he has Paul and me voting for opposite sides, which I’ve never done
d.) that I’m voting for Adwait over Wolfish :P (How’s that for jive talkin’?)
    e. that I have to JUDGE the final round! :(

I hope everyone’s brought their umbrellas–you’re going to need it if you’re going to Arbys or the Indian restaurant (mmm…curry goodness) or well…outside.

If John Schultz doesn’t win the TOC, he’ll still take everyone else’s money in poker. If Norman Yao doesn’t win the TOC, he’ll still fool people into thinking that he is double-entered in policy. And if Matt Levinson doesn’t win the TOC, then he’ll still take a really strange pose in some picture.

as much as mike shih appreciates your concern, he won’t be at toc. he just came down with a very nasty throat infection and he lost his voice. who knows, this might help one lucky at-large candidiate.

looks like i’ll be making a fun phone call to JW tomorrow morning…

Best of luck to my former students. I recall fondly my times at the TOC- come for the debate, stay for the waffles and let me know how it goes. I’ll be sending positive vibes to all of you from the library at the University of Chicago- All best, Seth

For what little it’s worth, best of luck from VB Extemp. I’ve been terribly impressed with those of you I’ve seen from a distance at VBI… debate things you believe, be smart, and remember that the experience of this coming weekend will not be short-lived in your memories.
